Today I had a beer, in an attempt to feel better from a hangover that had lasted two days. Then I had to fight myself for an hour to not go searching for money for more. What do you do to fight off cravings?
Self talk, self care, surf the urge instead of trying to fight accept it for what it is ride it out
The DREAM... The STRUGGLE.. AND THE PRIZE. DO YOU HAVE THE BIG BOOK OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS. LOOK AT THE DOCTORS OPINION ABOUT CRAVINGS FOR MORE. IM IN AGREEMENT THAT YOUR DRINKING AND USING CAREER HAS BEEN RUINED AND RECOVERY HAS BECOME REALLY PERSONAL FOR YOU. HAVE YOU BEEN TO TREATMENT FOR YOUR DRINKING. I DID 40 MONTHS OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT IN MY 20S. IM IN YEAR 36 NOW. IS EVERYTHING EASY. NO. BUT STILL AM COMMITTED TO A BETTER LIFE. IM A LONG TERM THINKER. YOU CAN DO THIS

Me. Good luck you got

One thing that has helped me is identifying the physical feeling of alcohol leaving the body. It's actually not very strong, and feel like a little emptiness or even hunger pang. Then, I realize that once my body purges all the alcohol this feeling will go away. So what's left is to realize that my mind has made up a craving based on the little physical feeling that I can I do by realizing that if I drink again that feeling will surely come back (because alcohol caused it while my body was cleaning itself), and that there isn't any benefit to having another drink. Seriously no benefit; no relaxation. No pleasure, no focus, as all these were illusions that I was brainwashed to think were real by so much of our society.
The Alan Carr's quit drinking without willpower book does a great job of exploring/explaining these elements to being free from it all.
Go to a meeting of any kind. Call someone before you pick the drink up not after. If you have a doctor you can also get on a cravings medication. That is what really helped me too.
