When sobriety kicks in.... I've been noticing things in certain people around me that I don't really like. I lived in a fog for so long I never payed attention to it... How do I handle it now? Anyone relate?
Yeah I'm kinda going through that slowly. My best friend who is like a brother to me drinks alcohol and I noticed that I've been pretty distant with him lately. I don't think he's doing anything wrong, I just think it's a mental thing with me that makes me not wanna be around people who drink while I'm trying to get sober..
This could literally be the complete opposite of what you're asking Lol, but I guess that's the closest way I can relate
Yes definitely and it’s a good thing. You can finally start processing your emotions correctly. You can choose how you want to interact with that person moving forward
Notice how drinkers treat you when they find out you don’t drink.any where in your life.if it is bad .stay a way from them for a year.in-tell you learn to handle them.
Now you have a choice.
My problem is this person doesn't drink.... It's just me realizing I don't like who they are cuz I'm not drinking
When we change what’s inside it’s inevitable that be we begin to change what’s around us in response. Trust your instincts, the person may not be for you.
I think when we get sober, we have the ability to see truth, maybe for the first time. Some truth I didn’t want to see and now I have to deal with it. That truth can be that some people aren’t who we made them out to be in our mind. For sure we aren’t the same person, either. Accepting change is critical to our recovery. That change may upset old relationships. The new relationships are strong though, because they are real.
I can't stop laughing about I'm noticing people around I don't really like. Hit the pause button.
? Im missing the humor you got out of a serious post. Drunk people look at people differently than a sober person does and that's what that was about. I'm finding things in someone really close to me that I love that hurts me cuz I'm not living in a fog anymore. But laugh away.
I can relate… ugly truths are even uglier with the lights on! 2 years and eleven months sober… my mind has been through many different phases. New friends, different workplace and new perspectives on people. I’ve cut some people out of my life and am looking forward to tomorrow.
I would never hurt your feelings on purpose very sorry you took that way. It's just that like you said your not living in a fog anymore and as your senses tune in more and more you will start seeing a lot of things differently. But it brighen my day. Again Sorry
Yes! It was soooo weird when I told people I ditched the booze. The people I didn’t think would be supportive actually were, which was great. But was more shocking was the people who I didn’t think would react negatively did, or the people would didn’t want to talk about it at all or be supportive in any real way. Those were shockers. How a person reacts to this is more a reflection of their stuff and not you.
