What does it mean when you say &I quote “when I admit that I’m powerless I become power full?
I don’t personally care for that type of language, but I know it works for a lot of people.
I WAS powerless I am NOT any longer.
I understand needing to admit you have a major problem, but I don’t care for the feelings of disempowerment. I kicked 30 yr habits a**. I find that very powerful.
Agreed! Taking charge of your sobriety makes you powerful!
It’s kinda round about saying you are admitting you have a problem. As they say “the truth will set you free” same thing. Just put into addict speak.
When I admit I can't do it on my own is when I begin to seek the strength of others to help my weaknesses. At least that's how I take it
You surrender, there’s liberation and power in giving your will to your higher power. Step 1 “We admit we were powerless and our lives had become unmanageable”. If we never admitted we were powerless over the drugs and alcohol we would probably still be using. There’s freedom in saying you have no power influence or control when we pick up.
Powerless now and forever. The life of an alcoholic!
I wouldn’t be writing anything on this forum or belonging to any type of program if I was powerless

I don’t see the humility in the second part of that quote.
I was powerless over alcohol.
Today I’m powerless over people, places and things.
I can’t control what happens outside my invisible 3’ diameter circle that surrounds me. What I can control is how I react towards people, places and things.
Recovery has lead me to feelings of empowerment. I understand what I have power over and what I do not. I do have power over my own decisions and reactions I don’t have power over others and nor do I want to. Freedom is recognizing this, for me it’s truly an empowering way to live. Powerlessness over my DOC isn’t really how I look at it, more like empowered when I choose alternatives regardless of the discomfort of that choice. It’s always a better choice to try something different and I always feel empowered by making a different choice. I have a toolbox full of tools and I’m constantly adding to it.
Took me a while to figure that out.
I always took to mean that you've admitted you are powerless over alcohol and now your becoming more powerful because alcohol doesn't rule your life
You take power away from what made you powerless by not engaging thus making you powerful
