What does take it one day at a time mean

What does take it one day at a time mean for you as a recovering addict. I ask because it’s different for everyone also fascinating.

For me, it is a choice I make everyday. Because if I don’t choose to not drink today….I might drink today. Sometimes when I get a craving, I have to make that choice again. When I make that daily choice, then I have to find the tools that will help me get through. It has taken me along time to understand it .

I like what Pam said and that rings true for me as well. For me “one day at a time “ not only applies to recovery but living life as well! All we will ever have on this earth is this present moment even right now while you are reading this. Not only do we only get one day at a time but we only get one moment at a time, tomorrow is not promised and neither is an hour or 10 minutes or 10 seconds from now. We only have the present moment. So I root myself in that mindset and try to be grateful in this present moment at all times. Apply this mindset to recovery and you have that much more power

I agree with Malcolm on this! It’s how I live my life. In the moment. The past is done, the future is unset… pay attention to what’s going on in the now.
