What helped you the most in the beginning of your sobriety journey? Books? Meetings? Thank you
Would also like to hear the answers and best of luck to you v !
Meetings. I hit in person meetings every day for a month. I got a sponsor my second week and started working the steps. Reading the big book. I went to my doctor and got a full physical because I was afraid of what I did to my body. I called my psychiatrist and told him the truth ( I had been lying for years) got back on my meds to help the anxiety and bipolar. Listened to my sponsor and friends in the program.
If you truly in your soul want to get sober than jump all the way in. Good luck to you.
Thank you for your response! I agree if we jumped all the way in to get here, we should jump all the way in to get out
All of it. Give it your all. Find as many tools as you can and rest to recharge when necessary.
I had to be aware of what I truely needed and went after it. Trust the process
Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. My alcoholic mind was very good at rationalizing my problem and coming up with MY plan for getting sober. After all, my way was really rock solid...drink from morning until night until I put myself into the hospital with a blood alcohol north of .38 (no, that is not a typo).
I am eternally grateful to the people in those early meetings who both respected my intellect and were still able to tell me to shut the heck up and listen.
