What is everybody’s thoughts on employment during early recovery?

This is a hard one so I will only speak from my own personal experience.
I've always worked. Its given me purpose and keeps me busy.
I was able to do a cpl days to keep myself sane and still work my program.
I was told to focus solely on sobriety. And that it would be too much.
I have relapsed since. I cannot blame it on work completely, I have my demons, but I do think maybe i needed a different approach in EARLY recovery.

Thank you

I’ve not had the experience where my addiction cost me my job, but from what I can tell the service industry is definitely not the place to be for recovery. I almost feel like it would be cool to drive for Amazon. You could listen to sober podcasts while you deliver and interact with people when you feel like it. You’d be on the move with little time to contemplate drug/alcohol use. I guess depends if you still have a drivers license or not. Either way, I’d rather be busy then constantly thinking about sobriety. Can’t hide from the world forever so might as well get some practice living in it. Good luck in whatever you choose!

I say 100 percent do it. A unaccounted and unoccupied mind is a raser line to chaos. Me, staying busy, working has been my key.

I really think it’s all really personal. Depends on the extremity of recovery. Work is totally possible but can also be tough depending on the industry or field. Best of luck
