What is everyone’s thoughts on mindful drinking?

It wouldn’t work once I take a sip it’s not gonna end anytime soon

If that means tracking it.for me I can’t stop.so would not help me at all.keep it simple.

Heard somebody share in a meeting this week that the only people they ever met who actively tracked their drinking were alcoholics. I agree with that sentiment. Practicing drinking in moderation seems very different than having to consciously keep track of how much/when you drink.

that’s a tough one, my sponsor always thinks that it’s good for people to try if they’re not fully convinced they’re an alcoholic, but she says almost every time they come back to AA. So it’s been reported a million times that it doesn’t work and there are exceptions, but I think it’s important to just expect it to go wrong because it could very well go right, but you have no idea what the outcome could be and it could be anything

I just wrote this elsewhere, so I'll copy/ paste since it's essentially the same question...

I used to combat this and constantly relapse due to thinking I had it under control, hadn't drank in a while, and having one with friends wouldn't kill me...

When I went to rehab, one of the things that helped me most was learning it wasn't an issue of willpower, but that alcoholics are physiologically different from others. There's a chemical imbalance that causes even a little alcohol to activate an insatiable craving that causes us to drink until we're basically unconscious, and then some.

If you have a problem, you can't "just have 1 or 2"- you have to stop entirely. Even if you manage just 1 that first time, it's going to set off a craving to lead you back down the path of ruin, you'll slowly increase each time because "hey, I was fine with just a couple last time", and so on.
