What is the best way to get a sponsor?

I imagine going to meetings but I've always had trouble with that too. Choose someone who has been sober a while who you won't become physically attracted to.

Find a local meeting, and look for someone who has a life or approach similar to what you want, or hope for. Took me a few meetings, but then just give an ask.

Go to meetings (in person or virtually). At some meetings they will ask if there is anyone who is willing to be a sponsor and that will give you an idea of who you can approach. Other than that just listen to everyone share and see if someone has a personality that might work for you. Don’t choose someone you find physically attractive.

Where do you live? Some areas have other resources along with local and online meetings. Where I live, we have a peer run organization called People Engaged In Recovery (PEIR) and they have meetings there (AA and NA) and all their staff is in long term recovery. They also do things like Narcan trainings, give out Narcan for free, and help with getting into and transport to detox/treatment. They have people there you can go in and talk to and are open 365 days a year. They also have people you can call if needed 24 hrs/day.

Find someone at a meeting who you relate to and has what you want for qualities etc. typically, men sponsor men and women sponsor women, but I’ve seen it the other way occasionally. By me there’s beginner meetings a couple times a month where someone can get a sponsor at
