What is your main coping mechanism to stay sober… and goooo!
Meetings. Prayer. Surrounding myself with recovery. Staying away from people, places, and things.
Well, you get rid of your past using friends for starts. They aren’t your friends. Then you don’t hang out in places you to use in or go to bars, etc. And you get rid of things that you use to use with. Bongs, bottles, pipes, etc. people, places, and things. You basically change everything. Only way to stay clean.
Cooking a good meal, a shower with a few drops of eucalyptus, then put a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow and listening to soothing music.
Exercising, meditation, dancing, nature, journaling, making jewelry, deep breathing, audiobooks and learning new things, rediscovering forgotten passions. You find new ways to feel high on life.
Writing, writing, writing. Attack the paper, not yourself. Even if it's illegible the next day bc you're writing so fast and it turns to scribble, get it our of your head and on to the page
Me my kids my health my future ,life. I lost so much time waisted so many opportunities. I was stuck at age 18 for 15 years. I didn’t do what I said I would. Cause I was drunk or Hi. What I did and try to hide this from was the best thing that ever happened to me and i lost it cause of it. Remember nothing good ever comes from this. Nothing never will. We say stupid things we put our selves in danger and other. And we risk getting in trouble. When that happens. We can blame it but we made that choice and we end up paying for it. No none to blame but us?
I really enjoy CR meetings and meetings in general especially when we fellowship and build each other up. We break up into smaller groups and that for me seems to be very therapeutic
Routine is my big thing. If I can maintain a routine that has kept me sober in the past, I can be reasonably certain to stay sober in the future. Maintenance of that routine is a conscious connection to my recovery. If my routine starts to erode it’s a good indicator that my recovery is starting to slip too. My routine includes meetings, readings, prayer, meditation, and exercise. Just things I do everyday religiously. It’s what works for me.
