What made you stop drinking?
My family would have gave up on me. I would have been placed into a mental health center and probably gave up myself in such a place.!
I didn’t quit drinking until I hit rock bottom. I mean not just losing my friends, my family, my self esteem, my confidence, many jobs, but my last drunk and the detox (did it on my own) literally almost killed me. Another detox and recovery will certainly kill me. I know I can never pick up another drink, ever! I would not wish it on anyone.
I didn’t stop drinking until I realized that I was never going to figure out how to drink like a normal person. Consequences didn’t do it. Not the SWAT appearance, not the hospital, not the detox, psych ward, jail, DUI, missed work, legal fees…nope I was still going to figure it out somehow. Not until my last relapse surprised and bewildered me, did I begin to lose hope that I would ever control my drinking. With this I found myself in my second week of rehab. I had my psychic moment there, when I became willing to accept the help from God and the fellowship of AA. It wasn’t even acceptance, really. I knew that it was my only option, because I had been given the gift of desperation.
Step 1 and 2.
The pitiful & incomprehensible demoralization.
I had a alcoholic seizure and woke up in the hospital and they said I almost died and the alcohol triggered a brain hemorrhage and now I have epilepsy from that … they said that it was Dormant for many years but alcohol triggered it so now I have to live with it for the rest of my life Now..
That’s really scary.
I’m sorry you’re going through that.
It was making me depressed and reading and understanding how alcohol works helped me no longer want to drink
I just want to be part of the secret society
When I look at myself in the mirror all I see is someone who doesn’t care about themselves. I was once sober and in recovery for 13 years until 2018. I have rarely had a sober day since trying to prove that it was just a phase. And I never really had a problem with alcohol.
Wow. That’s scary and a great motivator I’m sure.
I lost my interest in living. Lost my hobbies. Gave up on my successful job. Lost relationships. I hit rock bottom. I almost died multiple times. I want my life back. I want to learn who I am again
...Loss of “RESPONSIBILITY” while “DRINKING” O2-28-2OO2
I know the feeling! But just remember there is no rock bottom
I discovered it didn’t exist in rehab keep pushing
