What people do if they do not go to AA?

I do not go to AA currently, nor have I since I started officially becoming sober after millions of times of trying sobriety. Praise God for my sobriety. What do ya’ll do who do not go to AA? I follow some pages on instagram and so far that is my little community. Plus this app.
:hugs:

Try The Phoenix group. It's way different than AA.

I personally go to AA and therapy but I know some people use SMART recovery …. Although they’re not everywhere and even here in LA only a handful of locations

I don’t do AA either, I’ve gone to meetings several time but feel it’s not me so I’m there too. I always try different avenues of recovery anyway because there are plenty out there to choose from so just keep browsing until you find something to stick with.

Love TLC, the Luckiest Club, TLC on line. They saved my life after drinking for 30 years. Now 8 months sober and that is a miracle!

Women for recovery (wfs. Org)

It's free. I wish there was a little more activity but I found a local group (that meets via zoom) and I look forward to that meeting every week.

I don't think that I could "make it" without NA. What's not to like? It's easy, available to us all and FREE.

SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery. Were it not for the approach that smart takes I think there is a strong likelihood that I would be dead or continue to relapse. The faith which is a big part of my life that Celebrate Recovery focuses on helps me to maintain this path.

I tried AA. We were told without AA we’d 100% relapse. I just decided not to drink anymore instead of attending meetings and getting positive reinforcement from a group of strangers. And that’s what worked for me. Super nice people in AA though!! Just wasn’t for me

When I first got sober I went to a few meetings but then COVID hit. I’ve just made it a point to surround myself with a good support system and lean on those that I know are here to help me. I also enjoy finding new foods/sweets to try or a cool n/a drink so I get away from the boredom of just water. And each day I remind myself that the positives of being sober far outweigh anything to do with drinking. Hang in there!

Most of the time they drink :man_shrugging:t3:

Give AA a try. It’s been around for 90 years for a reason.

Sober Shedevils is an online women's sobriety group, also The Satanic Temple Sober Faction has a really good online sobriety meeting (not to mention they are an excellent resource for women's health).

My Grandfather got sober before there was any AA and as near as I can tell he probably did it with some kind of help such as church and or a friend. Maybe a doctor but probably that wouldn’t have been to easy because he was not living in town. There are people who do.

That is a great question and in many other countries there are other ways people can choose.

I just quit, then everyone quit me so I made a vital decision, I was a drunk and I was going to die, consuming more than 24 beers everyday for about 25 years. I got a job as a bar back to test my commitment to sobriety while my body got it’s brain and physical shape back to working my real job, tile setter, it was the funnest job, I never drank at bars. Never experienced bar life, cool little community. But everyone is different, no AA and I stayed for 5 months slinging beers and cleaning up after people figured I was good and 1 year later still sober setting tile again! Good luck it’s a beautiful world with two good eyes
