What’s everyone’s thoughts on counting days? I’m pretty sure it’s probably popular practice and was for me too, but for me personally it’s tied to a negative memory so I try and only check when I know I’m close to a milestone number. The reason I ask is the first 3 times I tried to quit I white knuckled it with no plan, and used counting days as motivation but otherwise went back to the life I had just as a dry drunk. Well that obviously failed 3 times l so I figure I would try something different this time around.
I will have 60 days tomorrow and a few things I’ve be noticed different are one I don’t at all feel like I’m white knuckling it. I have a solid plan in place, tons of support and am sticking to said plan so the time is passing quickly. I’ve learned to turn idle time in to productive time or self-care time. I haven’t been counting days except for milestones and it has been an even bigger reward abs motivation. For some counting days HAS to happen and I am not at all saying don’t count your wins or to not continue to have that thought process at the forefront of your mind. Just sharing a different experience I am taking this time around and how it’s working really well for me! Exercise, reading, daily gratitude lists, journaling, working, self care/me time, family time, have all taken my mind off the negative past, kept me present in my new, healthy addictions and it feels incredibly liberating. 60 days isn’t long, but it’s the longest I’ve gone thus far truly thriving in sobriety, truly happy, and truly feeling free of the chains in which I was once shackled to. For everyone struggling or sailing, keep up the good work, YOU are worth it and do whatever works for you! :call_me_hand:t3::muscle:t3::sunglasses:!
