What should i expect within the first couple weeks of being sober? I have always drank excessively and i am worried about what side affects come with going cold turkey?

Sorry to scare you, but that might actually not be the best idea. How much were you drinking and how often? If you develop a high tolerance and were consuming large quantities of alcohol daily or near daily for a significant period of time, you can face life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. People have died from withdrawal seizures. Go to the hospital and get medically detoxed if this sounds like your situation.

I was drinking a pretty significant amount regularly, almost daily honestly. I’ve had times where I didn’t drink for 3-4 days and didn’t feel any withdrawal symptoms. How long should i be cautionary about sever withdrawal symptoms?

24/72 hours

Just saw your other post. I agree with another individual who recommended going in for medical detox if you start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. If you were able to manage up to 4 days without symptoms, you may not need it but listen to your body. Most potential severe withdrawal symptoms occur within the 1dt 3 days or so. If you have ever had any prior seizures for any other reason, you would need to most likely be medically monitored.

Hey

It’s not easy going cold turkey…there will be days you will feel awful but that’s what I did

You can do it! It’s very hard, but can be done.

First 36 hours was always the worst for me (yes I’ve done it multiple times smh). Just don’t give up. Whatever amount of time you fight through, you will have to go through again if you give up. You will need to crawl out. There will be a point where it starts getting better rather than worse. Don’t quit before that. Be strong.

My cold turkey happened in the hospital and I’m thankful. My body forgot how to walk and it was painful as I worked out every day before hand. The beginning was rough but so worth the pain.
