What sober events would you be interested in attending? A major factor that challenges sobriety is just plain boredom. While these are wonderful resources that work for many, there are only so many AA meetings and yoga classes one can attend. I am in touch with a Colorado-based recovery network that supports and plans sober events. Most recently 2,000 tickets to the Colorado Rockies were ascertained for the group. 1,500 have committed to attending. There has been partnership discussions with music venues and other local businesses. Colleges have also expressed a significant interest. The group is looking to expand its footprint nationally but they need to know what people want and where there’s interest. Sobriety doesn’t mean the end of meaningful experience, it’s actually just the beginning…

I would love stuff with a student based attendance. I'm about to go back to college after taking 2 years off
to get sober, super nervous about the atmosphere I'm going to be in.

Got back into climbing. I recently stumbled upon an app called ThePhoenix, there are a fair amount of local events for me on there. Climbing was one that I’d done before so went for it. The next day I renewed my membership and have been going a couple times a week.

Comedy and live music fest with food trucks and mocktail booths! Craft tables and meditation tents. Yard games like cornhole and ladder ball. Sidewalk chalk and drum circles. Breakoff yoga and aa sessions. Tea and coffee huts. Bonfires with s’mores! … SOBERfest!

That's a great idea - especially for where I live. Camden Yards isn't exactly packed all too often these days, so tickets shouldn't be too hard to get in bulk

That sounds awesome! I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but Jim Norton is sober and has 30+ years of sobriety.

Sober tailgates for football games would be AMAZING

Yeah, a gathering to do anything (grill food, sporting events, etc) is what I want. I know I just need to actively participate more. I really just want to hang out with sober people doing sober normal things, I don’t even really care if it is somewhere that I might see others drink or use (music event). The fact that I am hanging out with a crew of sober people is good enough for me minus anything spiritual. Now I am now of a spiritual nature but I want to compartmentalize that from my social life!

Exactly! Just to be able to carry on a normal social existence without the feeling of being in a recovery group!

Agreed!

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that anyone would be so motivated to put sober events together, and I love baseball. Interestingly, the Denver Broncos were approached and were not at all interested in hosting an event…:face_with_monocle: I’m going to share the great feedback with my contact. If you’re potentially interested in getting something going in Baltimore DM me and I’ll put you in touch with the same person.

Good for you for going back! I’m glad to hear colleges are taking an increased interest in these types of events. Makes me more hopeful for my own kids. My college years were a total sh*t show.

Used to love climbing. Good for you man!
