What to do when a friend goes out?

It’s such a helpless feeling.

I’m trying to understand this question… may just be me. Go out how?

Relapsed

Oh yeah it’s a really helpless feeling.. I just try to be supportive and convince them to go to meeting or get whatever help they can.

Pray. It’s the only thing to do.

My very dear friend relapsed just before his 2 year anniversary. After a month on the run, his wife and I got him into detox this morning. It’s been a tough month waiting for him to surrender. I wanted to go rescue him several times, but my sponsor told me it’s best to let the disease do what it does. So, I just let him know that I was ready to help whenever he was ready. Hope your friend makes it back

I told him I would be here and hope he comes back. No response. I will leave it at that.

This is exactly what I am doing. It’s tough not to just go over there or get someone else to…like a male mentor. He has many. I know he has to move at the end of the month and I feel like he’s gonna tank. I hope not I hope not. I also wonder if he is wishing someone would reach out…..tough.

I just had to deal with a similar situation with a close friend a few days ago and now she’s contemplating getting away from the program. I’ve witness many of my peers relapsing. They have to want sobriety and do what it takes to stay sober. Not everyone is in that “mindset or space.” All we can do is be available to them when they are ready to get sober. Good luck with your friend.

That's a tough deal. Like others have said, all we can do is offer support and pray. It isn't in our hands.
