When do you guys start to notice changes for the better?..... As in weight loss, better mood, better skin, brighter eyes.....

Usually when the poison is out, recovery will start to take place. But maintenance is required...... God provides but we must do some stuff too

Unfortunately it takes a while. I'd say by six months of recovery I was a different person, weight loss, more energy, happier by miles. It is different for everyone, but to get the best results plan on long term goals and stay connected.

It took almost a year for me to feel completely "normal" again, but that's probably because I was using for ten years straight with no breaks except for jail. I would imagine it's different for everybody but I promise it's worth it.

I noticed weight loss within a month or two. But the skin, better mood, eyes took 6 months. Now a year I can say I am a changed man. Mostly because I care about me and not the booze.

Thanks for the reality check friends! I was hoping to notice improvements sooner. So with the high expectations, I was sure to be let down. Thanks for the perspective!

It’s slow to start and for me it actually got a lot worse before it got better. I would say I noticed a lot of positive changes in the 5-8 months. I spent months 1-2 in and out of the hospital. The eyes took about 5 months and around 6 my body found its new homeostasis.

I don't think I was to the point of going into a facility. But I was noticing that I was getting anxiety if I thought I was going to have to go an evening without even a couple beers. I never thought I would be someone who would be addicted to something but I'm only 2 Days in and it's almost all I can think about. So I keep trying to get myself to focus on the positive changes that should occur over the coming months. NOT what I'm missing out

I went 90 days without drinking and still was losing my mind until I committed to 90 meetings in 90 days.

It helped me tremendously. I think 12 steps programs should be something everyone does.

It’s a program for living. In the first 120 of being in the program I’ve lost weight, sleep better, and was able to start a small business that took off faster than I could handle.

I do my best to keep my priorities in check:

1.The Universe/God
2.The program
3.Family & Friends

It’s no pink cloud and I personally am not convinced it’s a magic bullet.

Like most things in life you get out of it what you put into it. The desire to stop using, going to meetings, not using between meetings, calling friends are how I gained traction in the program.

I’m over 9 months sober and I just finished my 1st step. It’s different for everyone. I see small increments of improvement all the time and the people who are close to me have told me they see it as well.

I know it is a long road to recovery. So I stop often to embrace my surroundings good and bad and I think the trip will go by pretty quick.

You’re worth it.

Thanks for the guidance

It takes a while. Its a process. It took a while for your drinking to become a problem, its going to take a while to clean out your body. It going to take a while to feel human again. This is a time for self care. Get enough sleep, eat healthy, exercise.....join a support group. Best of luck!

Thanks!!!!

Ju say like weight loss it takes anywhere 2-6 months definitely depends on who you are as well genetic wise or if you work out or not sweating.

Great example, imagine a cup full of brown Coca Cola. You take a bottle of water and let’s say you pour it in that cup the brown color starts to disparate as more water is poured in it gets even clearer! But sadly that pour of water is all time! Also get your mind right that should be your number one worry not the physical things our bodies will and is working for you now. If you can’t get your mind right you’ll keep asking the same questions why.

Thanks. I just keep imagining getting back to the old me, with energy to go to the gym And spend all day in the yard. Or even go to a friend's house to hang out and NOT need a drink.

And also be able to wear my clothes without ripping the seams.

Be Sober and thankful and you will be a better person than you ever were before. I had to laugh about the clothes. After I quit drinking 12 or more drinks a day and started eating better and exercising the weight flew off. I had to buy all new clothes. Mentally and energy wise it took me almost a year but my clarity of thought is light years better.

I’m three months in, sleep is hit or miss, and weight is basically unchanged and needs constant management. But I’m already a lot less irritable, and have a lot more self confidence. I’m a very happy sober, only wish I’d stopped drinking decades ago…but better late than never :innocent:

It was right at a month when I began to feel better physically and right at six months when I began to realize how bad I felt before
