When my daughter Tatem, was born I said “there’s my baby..” she looked up at me and smiled. She didn’t scream or cry. It was hands down one of the most beautiful things that’s ever happened to me.

I was in the parking lot of the hospital an hour later getting high.. I couldn’t go a few hours without the drugs. Even on the day my daughter was born. It was my number one priority.

8 years later.. I’ve been sober for over 4 years. Half of her life I’ve spent repairing the damage I did while I was in active addiction. I have a wife who is sober, healthy and loves Tatem like she’s her own. She will always know that she is loved.

My son Reo, was born with two loving, sober parents. He will always be taken care of how he deserves to be taken care of. He will never know the pain of having a parent in active addiction.

Children deserve sober parents.

Kids can be pretty resilient and forgiving. Thanks for thinking of others instead of just yourself. I say whatever higher power gets you sober, be grateful for that. I'm not a parent but an uncle, happy sober dad days!

Thanks for sharing this. I grew up in a home with an alcoholic parent my entire childhood. My dad never got sober. In fact, he died drunk. My heart sinks knowing he left this world at his worst. But my childhood is why I'm adamant about giving my child what I didn't have- and that's 2 sober parents. Thank you for giving your kids an amazing gift.

My mom is currently dying of alcoholism and my heart sinks as well. I know the feeling. It’s a different vibe when you grow up with an alcoholic or addict parent. Which is another reason I chose to get sober. Kids do deserve sober parents!

I'm sorry about your mom. I'll be praying for your mom, and your family. If you ever need to talk/vent my inbox is open.

Thanks for giving your kids a sober parent.

I became a dad just over 4 weeks ago. It amazes me how quickly my world became about her. It also amazes me the weight that a 7 lb baby carries. It feels like I am holding the weight of the world in my arms. She and her mom are my driving forces.
