While sober, I'm usually either depressed or just doing okay

While sober, I'm usually either depressed or just doing okay. Today I feel nothing. Is this a normal thing in early recovery? I'd almost rather be depressed than be in whatever mood you call this. It's like I've emotionally flatlined. Just complete apathy. I don't like it.

It’s your brain trying to protect you against something you haven’t dealt with yet. If y out have a sponsor talk to him. Get to meetings and talk about it. I have been through it, and it does pass.

Sounds like you could be experiencing PAWS symptoms and it will pass. Hang in there. https://www.google.com/search?q=paws+symptoms&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjZu-mi4PH2AhVrIDQIHXb1CsAQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=428&bih=746&dpr=3#imgrc=5Jwa7i-KJz_3xM

Anhedonia is common in early recovery. I’ve experienced it when I’ve gotten sober in the past. Mine was temporary. The brain is adjusting. It’s more than likely temporary for you.

I feel you man. 2.5 years in I still find myself there. Time helps, finding things to do help. Summer tour just announced. Tickets on sale tomorrow. Nothing like a Dead show to raise the spirits, hang with the Wharf Rats.

Start a side hustle with something you are passionate about.

I listen to a lot of dead shows, watch funny sit comes and of course work a program. Even when I would rather poke my eyeball out. Talk or keep in some kind of communication with people even if it’s the last thing u feel like doing. It helps .

been going through the same, but also with a mix of rollercoaster emotions, sometimes i don’t even know why i’m sad- i just am

Very normal. You're exactly where you're supposed to be. Being around other ppl in recovery is my medicine tho. I always leave feeling better or breathing better.

It's called being discontent

I committed to 90 in 90.

I live in upstate NY. Might go to Bethel Woods. It's close. Haven't been to a show in like 6 years. Phish, I think. I remember it, mostly. That's rare.

I get it. I have depression when sober, so a quick fix has always been booze. It does work, unfortunately. Of course, it then proceeds to ruin your life.

Yeah. I guess I'm very dissatisfied with life. I hope to find my way eventually.

Yes! My only talent is design/illustration. I'd like to do something with that. Tattoo artist, maybe.

Since 2016 I tried to get sober. There was never enough drugs and the vodka stopped working. Can't even count how many times I relapsed. Met a woman in AA last year who walked me through Fellowship of the Spirit stepwork. Just had a yr on March 23rd. I was just lazy and never wanted to do the work.
