How do you get over your fear of going to the doctor’s? I have several health issues going on that I know I need to address but I keep putting it off because I am afraid the doctors will not be kind about my addiction. I don’t need to feel bad about myself over and over. How do you get through it?
Well if they were not kind I would leave and find another. I think it’s a real good chance they won’t be.
They were not that nice to me on the psych ward of all places. I was told to read the Bible, just stop, and then they showed me pictures of how bloated heavy drinkers can get. It’s 2022 and I thought we might have realized saying just stop certainly doesn’t work. But anyway, after that I have a hard time believing I’ll be able to get through an appointment without being scolded and leaving worse (mentally) than when I arrived.

Bless your heart. That is so messed up it’s ridiculous I’m a counselor and know the profession has more than it’s share of incompetence. People who hurt others with greed and ignorance. Do you need to detox or rehab? I got better through NA and AA. Trust your gut if someone doesn’t feel right leave. I had to do that with a doctor recently. There are good ones too. May have to keep looking. What they do says nothing about you. Realize if they do unprofessional things it’s because something is wrong with them. Not you. What happened to you was abuse and we tend to blame ourselves when that happens it’s not you plain and simple. Keep pressing forward.
Thanks. I’m doing a few things for rehab one which includes getting the Vivitrol shot (I know that is not doing the “work” but at the time I just needed something immediately to stop the train going off the rails). Anyway, if it weren’t for that, I don’t even know if I would bring it up but I know it’s important that there is a record all over of me being on it.
