I saw something earlier and figured this is a great place to share. Addicts have a deep sense of understanding a purpose for ourselves. We're often initiative driven and we respond well to being recognized when we're figuring life out. Especially sober life. In the end, we all want people to be proud of us. But what I saw earlier was this..
There's only two people in life you should focus on being proud of you.
It's not your spouse.
It's not your mom.
It's not your dad.
It's not your friends.
The two people you should focus on making proud of you are the eight year version of you and the 80 year old version of you.
That was impactful to me. Be the person you needed when you were an eight year old kid. The person you looked up to back then, even if they were never even real in your life. The person that the child version of you needed or would have admired is who you need to be today.
If we carve this path for us, then the 80 year old version of us will be able to look back in our twilight years and reflect on how we lived a life. A life of struggle. A life of conquering odds. A life of overcoming tribulations and a life of successes. And I hope we can all look back at our life through the eyes of both of our images and be happy.
Keep pushing, folks.
