Because alcohol is an addictive poison and it’s designed to trap you. Please don’t beat yourself up. We’ll be here tomorrow too.

I’m sorry to hear that Heather but Andrea is right- beating yourself up only makes it worse. Here if you ever want to talk

Hi Heather - I had a tough time for a long time also. I was trying to do it ‘my way’. I mean I have a college degree, was a self-made football player in my youth, turned a business around single-handedly. I could figure this recovery thing out - read a few books etc. But addiction doesn’t care about that stuff. The harder I tried the more I failed. When I finally surrendered, I won. When I finally got serious about a 12 step fellowship and did what was suggested, instead of what I thought was best, I finally lost the will to drink or use. Maybe going to AA or NA will save your life. it’s worth a try.

Trying harder doesn’t work. You have to change something (or everything). When we have crossed the line where alcohol doesn’t do the good things it used to for us and now only does the bad things to us; when we have lost as much as we want to or can; when we have expended all logic in beating the disease, we are given the gift of desperation. We change when the pain becomes greater than the fear of change. Is it time for you to make a change? Give AA a good chance. If you immerse yourself in the program and keep an open mind, I think things will start to change for you.

Many of us can't stay sober by ourselves so we seek out the help of others in recovery support groups. The previous posts recommend AA and I fully agree with them. You don't have to do this alone. You'll meet people who've recovered from a hopeless state & they'll share with you how they stay sober. You've got nothing to lose.

The reason I couldn’t stay sober is of the obsession of the mind on alcohol. Then I developed a phenomenon of craving once I took that first drink. The obsession blocked me from playing the tape. Which then caused my to take that first drink. In recovery I also found out that I had a lot of resentments, fears, and my six conduct was bad! I was powerless over the material world. I was selfish and self absorbed. Today I can say that I get to have a second chance at life. But it comes with a price, I must continue to work a spiritual program of AA. Once I stop working my program, that is the 12 steps of AA, I begin to slowly fall back into old habits. Then misery starts to creep in and a drink looks like a solution.
I’m here if you need anything recovery related!

Will today bring you looking for a rehab maybe?

I am in the same boat as you are! Here for you if ya need to talk.
