My 17 yr. Old’s behavior and attitude is one of my worst triggers. I know the problem is mine-but.

Agreed I totally know it’s my own problem

On Tuesday I found a big bag of shrooms in my 14 years room. (He just turned 15 yesterday) That's when I had a bad relapse. I had to call my sister. Said, come get your nephew before I do something bad. Her and her husband meet him at the door of my house when he got home from school. Teens can be the biggest triggers I have experienced. I am trying to stay healthy myself and couldn't deal with him. It was actually something my sister and I have talked about for a but. So he went from having a graduating class of over 500 to having a whole 48 kids in the high school he now attends. It's been hard but thankful for my families outpouring support so I can recover.

It’s been tough for me too. My son turned 18 this year and is in the middle of his senior year. I’ve watched him do a lot of things I didn’t expect. A lot of things that were disappointing. But it’s because I was sober that I was able to have calm and rational conversations about all of it. There were substance issues and girl issues and sleepless nights. But I always knew that if I relapsed I would be of no use. I would make the problem worse. I reminded myself of my teenage years often and how I could have used a parent that was in my corner and not the opposite corner. We always expect better of our kids. I do too. And one year from know my son will be in college which is something I never did. He’s perfectly imperfect and I could not be more proud!
