Why do they say there's not an end date to your sobriety? Why isn't there a graduation?
Because it’s a journey, not a destination. Because we’ll never be able to casually use or drink again. Because we’ll never revert to being a ‘normie’ - whatever that is.
I think you can get to a point where you’re now living sober, and you aren’t fighting to stay sober daily. BUT you still have to nurture that life, because make no mistake, we cannot ever drink/use normally. I know I can’t.
Even after you complete the steps you're never done. You have to continue to take personal inventory. And spread the message to other alcoholics and addicts.
All I have is a daily reprieve, no permanent fix.
I’m an AA’er. It is believed that our sobriety is contingent on our daily fit spiritual condition. My experience is that when I stop working my program, my old thinking slowly comes back. It’s insidious and undetectable as it slowly makes me irritable, restless, and discontent. I start feeling resentful, anxious, uncomfortable. I feel the need to escape, detach, and get away. This all leads me back to the insane thought that I can, or need, or deserve a drink. One little drink just to take the edge off. AA has taught me how to live life on life’s terms, and given me daily tools to deal with my feelings and emotions in a much healthier and beautiful way. It took me many trials and tribulations to get to this point, but I’m very happy and blessed to be where I am today. I don’t want my old life back. I don’t want to graduate and be all alone, miserable, and hopeless again. I don’t want my wife and children to look at me with hurt, anger, and disappointment anymore. No thank you. You can keep the diploma. That’s the way I see it today. God willing I will awake tomorrow and continue to feel the same way

Well said and couldn't agree more.
The only day we beat this disease is the day we die sober.
The day we die.
