Why Service is important

Went to two meetings tonight. A beginners, then my regular meeting back to back.

Someone asked if I wanted to go to the retreat next Saturday- I wanted to say NO immediately but I thought if I don’t want to do this then I probably should do it lol..

Then they ask me to greet people at 7:45am. I said - sure thing no hesitation, but in my mind I’m like wow :open_mouth: on a Saturday.

The next meeting was a speaker meeting about Service. Glad I said yes before hand. Felt good to know I’m working a program.

Why ?- it’s not about me, I have to get out myself to stay sober

  • When we feel good about ourselves, we are less likely to relapse. Volunteer work allows people in recovery to feel good about themselves by helping us accomplish something positive in the world
  • Service improves the quality of our recovery. We freely share our time and talent in an effort to stay sober and carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to those who are suffering from alcoholism.
-Alcoholic/Addicts who devote some time to helping others are less likely to suffer with depression
-Service is taking action to create value for someone else
-Being of service in recovery means helping those in need for no reward or profit

Peace and Love  tonight everyone!
