° winter depression

This season is the season I most dread. But what's worse is what lingers, the thoughts in my head. First year sober, not sure what to expect. Probably books for escapism instead of alcohol induced regrets.

I am all too familiar with winter depression and this winter has been tough for me. I’m currently watching the weather and as soon as I see a place to go to sit in the sun, I’m outta here!!!

I cant determine if it's the weather or more a state of mind. As a minnesotan, winters be like aunt flo; overstaying her welcome.
Melancholia is the best way to describe it
R.H Sin & Robert M. Drake nearby + therapist = solutions

Boost up on your vitamins like D, E and magnesium to give yourself a chance.

Embrace the calm and quiet. Be present by being present. Doing stuff. Working out. Cooking. Reaching out to other drunks/addicts. Volunteer at a shelter. Fill some down time with things like that then spend the rest of the day reflecting on those things.

As a Michigander, I know the winters you speak of all too well. Going into my third winter of sobriety here, first one was hardest, and the next one I knew I could get through more than fine, this one so far has been going better than more than fine so, so far so good . You've got this!

Researched some options and am going to try First Person mushrooms. My hobbies remain, mind just isn't the same. Just feelin Gorillaz Clint Eastwood these past few days.

I thought I had it considering I was fine after the holidays, but realized it's winter season in general, where I felt the emotions and drank the most.

Yeah, completely agree. January through March could be hardest, so dreary, no sun, outdoor activities very limited. I use these months now to read alot, educate myself, and also bought some dumbbells, tension bands, a kettle bell weight, etc. Just simple stuff, but get some exercise in and that really helps

Just dont drink find alternatives... like tomorrow I'm going to a 7:00 a.m. breakfast and 8:00 a.m. meeting and then 9:00 a.m. I have to go to work and that's how my day is going to go

Winter is an eazy time to isolate

I don't mind isolation as I'm able to write and read... don't get a lot of that time these days as days are shorter and nights come quicker

I'm here too Sam 2nd winter sober now. It's going a lot better mentally for me then the last. And knowing that it will start getting warmer already in a couple months helps me a bit...Actually I had a lot of stuff lingering in my head til around the 12 months mark. That's when it really felt like my brain was really healing well, and I started seeing things much more clearly. And at 21 months now the benefits just keep coming. Sounds like you've got this. Hang in there

Now it’s your time to start a new normal. I used to drink with everything I did. I couldnt just hide in a hole. It will get better. I have new normals and doing different things with zero thoughts of drinking. You will too if you stay on track.
