Withdraws

I’m struggling with withdrawals. I spent three days in the hospital and had a GI Scope (EDG) and my esophagus is in pretty bad shape. The doctor told me of I done quit alcohol will kill me.

I’ve already survived a massive cardiac arrest and performed CPR for 90 minutes (Not Related to Alcohol). I feel horrible mentally and physically.

I will take any recommendations.

Hi Tony have you been to treatment

Get connected. AA or another group. There are many credible ones outside of AA. I am in TLC. The Luckiest Club. Online group. That group is literally saving my life. Tried it all and so far a small miracle. My humble suggestion. Healing prayers sent.

Yes, going back to VA facility this time. I’m a disabled vet.

I’m doing Smart Recovery now. AA is not for me.

Good for you! Tried AA for 10 years. Never worked. Finally found something that is sticking. Respect all paths to recovery. Glad you found your niche. You can do this💪!

Glad you found something. AA is not the end all be all. As long as you have the desire and a program of some sort to help.

Try to stay hydrated and sleep. Eat things easy on your throat and be kind to yourself. Remember we got your back in this.

I’d listen to the docs. I’m not liberal medical industry lover, either! I just know that I almost died, and your symptoms are very similar to what I went through.

My esophageal bleeding did eventually stop. I had several scopes done and luckily the bleeding wasn’t varices! I have permanent liver scarring now.

I had to quit out of spite, almost. They gave me meds in the ICU when I was withdrawing but I did have symptoms for weeks after. I was a daily drinker for twelve years, and when I finally had to stop I was cracking the bottle of vodka open at 7:30 in the morning every day.

Either way, it sounds like you’re at a place where you need to make a choice. Booze or death.

Thanks Raymond. Pretty much the same here. My story is very similar. I don’t want to die either. I know about cracking the bottle when I first woke up too. I’m lucky there was no varices appreciated.

Thank you brother for your advice.

Sending hugs and prayers. The medical help with withdrawals is the way to go to keep you safe, especially bc you have already had trouble with your heart.
Aa is not for me either. I am still shopping around for a good group.

The memory of withdrawals is what keeps me clean. You have us for support, but when you are done with the physical part of withdrawing, you might need a very supportive group to keep you on the right road to sobriety.
Best of luck, Tony.

You’re absolutely right. I still have a stomach and still no appetite.

Thanks for your kind words

Yes I have. A 30 day program. It wasn’t very successful.
