Wondering if anyone else can relate

Wondering if anyone else can relate. I don’t drink daily. One to 2 days per week, usually on the weekend. But once I start I don’t stop until I’m drunk, to the point of blacking out and feeling crappy the next morning. For example it’s Monday. I’ll have no problem not drinking for the next several days but come Friday I’ll do it again.

Diddo what Seth said.

Blacking out is a definite sign issues are coming.

Sounds like you qualify as a individual that is addicted to Alcohol.
Perhaps a binge drinker

Hi Jill, I had a very similar drinking pattern at the end, I did not drink daily, but when I did drink I never knew how much it was going to be. I have been sober for a little over 3 years and do not regret it for a second. Alcohol was getting in the way of me fully enjoying and being present in my life.

I can certainly relate. Mine started on the weekends with friends and then I'd sneak it to school (I was 16 at the time). That urge will build like a monster till you satisfy it. And even then there is no such word. Blacking out presents a personal safety concern so maybe evaluate why you feel the need to over indulge ... Perhaps you can stop before it gets too out of control. You've got a great group of folks here.

Same. I didn’t drink every day and sometimes I went weeks without a drink but then I went out with friends or just craved it. And just like you, once I have one drink I couldn’t stop. I would have to get drunk every time. I couldn’t just have 1. Kinda feel like a fraud because I stopped drinking cold turkey.. no rehab and no withdrawals. I stopped because I lost someone to alcoholism. His death acted like my “rock bottom”. I know that the best thing I could have ever done for myself is becoming sober. I have a problem regarding of drinking only on weekends or every other week.

It’s like a functioning alcoholic. You handle your business then when you don’t have to you get smashed

Alcohol killed me. Literally 3 times. That still didn’t stop me. We all know where it leads, we know the result. It’s the closest thing to being able to predict the future that anyone can get!! So for me I had to dig into why I needed to drink in the first place! What was I ignoring about myself or my feelings? Why did I not want to face what compelled me? Friends passing, losing family and even attempting suicide still didn’t stop me. It wasn’t until I decided I’ll do one more thing I’ve never done! Let me work on the emotions I shut off for 20 years!! I put myself in a 2 year program in Canada. Leaving me no way to just leave and not fully do it. After a year and a bit was when it sunk in. When I got to the roots of why I drank to forget and numb! So now over 3 years later I’m so f-ing glad I failed at suicide and I have a chance at the best life I could ever imagine! My point is. You can live better. There is a future out there better than the blacking out and feeling like garbage. And I never thought it was possible. Everyone’s recovery is different. And you will find what works for you. If you need anything. Don’t be afraid to reach out. Good luck You’re worth a better life!! You deserve it! Now go get it!!:hugs:

Try not drinking for a week.

That's how I am Friday afternoon on till Sunday morning drunk that's from what I was taught to be Is Benge drinking the biggest thing in my life where people places an things that I needed an still need to stay away from

Try quitting alcohol if you’re curious

I can also relate. From 2007-2012 I was a daily drinker. I currently don't drink every day or even every week, but when I do, I get way too drunk and often black out despite my best efforts to just have 1 or 2 drinks and am always hung over the next day. Because I wasn't drinking daily like I used to, I rationalized to myself that it wasn't a problem anymore, but the truth is that this is not normal or heathy. I finally came to the realization that I'm wasting my life and not where I want to be because of it. Alcohol isn't worth it anymore.

Same here. Still glad I'm sober. My weekends are so much better
