Work frustrations and the bottom of a bottle

It's one of those days at work, and everything's rubbing me the wrong way. In some ways, this is exactly how my drinking got out of hand during COVID. I was stuck at home (still am), resenting work (and other things in life), depressed and overwhelmed.

Laid up with a nasty case of the F-its, the easiest salve came after a short walk to the liquor store. My fix-it elixir was a bottle of bourbon. The top of the bottle calmed my nerves and got me through the work day. The middle fed my resentment and frustrations, and the bottom let me finally pull the switch on it all and drift off into oblivion, leaving behind all the emotions, and any sense of life or consciousness.

I did that a lot. Sometimes I still want to. But I'm content today. I'm not tempted. I'm working through it. And I'll be ok.

But 5 pm can't get here fast enough.
