Work is one of my greatest triggers. Bad day? I want to drink. Really good day? I want to drink. When I’m triggered outside of work it’s easy to distract myself but when I’m at work, I’m not sure how to shake the feeling. Tough week!

I was that way for years. It has taken me awhile to get out of that spiral. I am one year sober and still occasionally think about drinking after a bad work day. Now I play the night drinking through my head and realize I will just be worse tomorrow. It takes time. I want to do it less and less. Best of luck on your journey

You could try a grounding technique at work when you feel this way. Find five colors and focus on each one individually. Then pick 4 sounds and focus on those. I’m not sure if this is the textbook way to do it but my therapist often tells me to use this technique and it really helps me refocus and referrer. You’re doing your best so give yourself credit!

I used it for work too so it can be a challenge.

Thanks Robin. You’re right, it definitely would make the next day harder so I need to just keep remembering that.

That sounds like a great idea that I will have to try. Anything to take my mind away from it momentarily is worth a try. Thank you!
