Yesterday reminded me why my sobriety is so important to me. We finally had to say goodbye to our very senior dog Bertha, and the emotional pain and love was so very real. The processing hasn't been masked or hidden or put off until a more convenient time. I know that we did the right thing by Bertha, but that doesn't stop the emotions. It's not supposed to. It's also a reminder to me that we all have value in relationships that we can't understand cause it's not self-value, it's our meaning to others. If I were not sober, would I have been all I could have been for my family in this process? I know I'm doing the right thing by me by staying sober, but that doesn't stop the emotional temptation to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol. It's all about keeping it real for me, no matter how painful. If you've read this far, thank you for letting me ramble and stay strong, you're worth it.
