Yesterday was 6 months for me. By far the longest

Yesterday was 6 months for me. By far the longest I’ve ever gone in about 15 years. But I’ve been really wanting to drink lately more than I have in the whole six months.. I’m tempted to go get one beer, or even go buy a beer and just take one sip. Although I know I don’t truly want that the thought keeps entering my mind and the image of me sipping a beer keeps playing in the background. It’s been driving me fuckin crazy

Play the tape to the end… what is one sip, or one beer gonna do for you? I know for me it would be devastating. I could do it, but I have plans for Christmas and if I did I would miss those plans.
Those thoughts are the addiction trying to worm it’s way back in. Don’t listen to that demon! It’s trying every trick it knows to get you to slip. We all get the “just one” thought at some point. You got this you are stronger than the demons!

It’s like knowing at all times that I can physically go walk to the store and buy a beer. I’m always thinking like haha it would be crazy if I just went and had a beer.. joking to myself and then after I’m like haha..

I’ve slipped a few times this month and had beers. It was disappointing. Even the craft stuff I like (Modern Times Jet Ski Fight) tasted weird. Plus I was gassy the next day and felt super gross ripping farts in public. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially since you’ve already made it so far. Brave of you to admit that here though.

The burden of being an adult. We can walk into any bar or store, hand them money and they will give us alcohol. We have to be strong and change our way of thinking. It does get easier to deal with those thoughts with time.

That’s honestly what’s been keeping me from acting on it, playing the rest of the night out.. or the next morning, or the next however long it’d take for something devastating to happen to bring me back here (if I’m lucky)

Ones too many and a thousand isn't enough.

We have to play the scene forward. You may feel relief for awhile, but when you wake up, you will have more shame to carry around knowing you accomplished absolutely nothing.

It's called believing the lie; that this time, everything will be OK, but it never is, is it?

Go to meetings
Please!

Congratulations on 6 months.
Remember, that the circus is still in town.

Congratulations on the six months. That is a true milestone. As far as the cravings they will come and go. Be aware of changes in your life that may stir the cravings. I can tell you from my own experiences that I have dealt with this for years during my sobriety. Right now my life is changing. I’m separated and my kids are at an age of independence. So, I’m trying to get out and do things but I feel out of place every where. Those are the times I remember how a drink can knock the edge off and that triggers cravings for me. Be aware of your triggers and how to deal with them. Sorry for the length of the reply

I’m gonna go to a meeting tomorrow, I’ve only gone a few times because I’ve done it on my own but since these intrusive thoughts Im realizing I need to reach out for help as it’s been getting harder
