Yesterday was my first birthday sober

Yesterday was my first birthday sober. I mean, since I was 14. I turned 24 and the difficult part was probably the social part; I had no friends to celebrate with because my old friends all drink and drug. I stayed in with family (which was very nice and relaxing and I’m very grateful for them). Social media makes it difficult, seeing people going out and celebrating/doing stuff with friends while I’m basically alone. But I have to keep in mind this is my turning point for the better.

Celebrate your sober birthday. I also see many ppl I know having fun, vacations, drinking and dancing . Sure looks like they are having fun! But they are not a alcoholic like I am. It does hurt to see them on fb with all of their great vacations. But I am different. I stay home and away from these activities. Hope your Day is great!:birthday:

Happy Bday Lindsay!! Congrats on 2 weeks of sobriety as well. I got sober at 24. I remember how difficult it was for me. I felt very alienated and different from everyone else. I remember the loneliness. It’s nice that you have a supporting family! I recommend that you slowly build a sober support system. Back in my day, I only had 1 choice…AA. Today there are many other choices. Do yourself a favor and get plugged into one. You don’t want to do this alone. I spent way too many years being sober in a non sober world. It was difficult and lonely. I think bonding with other sober people is such an important part of a healthy recovery. Use the tools of technology to help you connect with other sober people, rather than watching others drinking and partying. You can do this one day at a time :peace_symbol:

Well happy birthday lindsay :birthday:  :tada: first birthday is usually a Lil awkward cause we are still in the phase of seeing who are real friends and support us, but in time we figure out the truth, make new friends and see the party's better with true friends (and when you can remember it the next day):grinning::smiley:

Happy birthday! Not trying to compare but just sharing, be super grateful you are sober and able to be with family. I spent 6 birthdays in prison away from family because of this disease. And don't let FB bring you down. I deleted it long ago after realizing how detrimental it was to my mental health. All you see is snapshots and highlights of everyone's lives. You don't see how they got in a wreck after or how hung over they are and puking their brains out or fighting amongst friends over stupid drama. You don't see the real, FB is fake AF! Congratulations and again Happy Birthday!!! You are not alone when you are plugged in also! :pray:t3::muscle:t3::heart:

Happy belated birthday! Congrats on staying sober!

Happy birthday Lindsay. I can’t imagine getting sober in my 20’s… I doubt I could have. I didn’t until 47. As hard as it might be now, know that you won’t have the years of regret, broken relationships, not being the best parent you could be, etc….. congrats on making it and many more. 20 years from now you will know it was the best thing you did
