I guess you win fruitcake.
What was I thinking, trying to reason with an all knowing being such as you.
It's a good thing we have you to straighten out there billions of happy people who think they're living just fine
Yeah, it was absolutely terrifying. People who don't follow God doesn't shove their religion down the followers of gods throats. But it is vice versa, unfortunately. I'm just stating that in reality, God is 100% not needed for sobriety. It's just unrealistic to even think such thing.
It seems like that is exactly what he's trying to do. Convert or judge anyone who believes in God and disparage them. I don't think he's smart enough to realize that he's doing exactly the same thing.
Like someone of one race hating all member of another because they insist the others are all racist..... Kinda makes them racist doesn't it?
There are bad people who hide behind religion, just as there are bad people who hate it. Doesn't make it a bad thing, just shows them to be who they are... Bad people
I agree.
No God needed for sobriety.
I particularly like the authors âradical acceptance and mindfulnessâ. I would add radical gratitude to the mix. It is really transformative of my outlook on life.
All kinds of seats for all kinds of a$$es.
Including mine.
This post wasn't for you, or the "billions of others," etc etc. You came in here and had a bite, and now you're complaining about the taste. Nobody asked you. The shĂŻt you're doing here is the reason people like myself push back so hard.
Im not trying to convert anyone, I'm simply putting a line out for people who dont wanna convert to YOUR beliefs to get sober. So they have a place here as well.
Again, you prove my point beautifully.
You just had to completely ignore my whole comment. HILARIOUS! I said he is disparaging those who have to force God down others throats. You of course took it like he was saying ALL followers of God which was not what he meant. Something a person who forces their religion down someone else's throat would react to when they don't understand the other person's point of view. As a whole, he wasn't even trying to make a debate or spread hate. Simply just stating to others that a god is not required to get and stay sober, and how we're not shoving our religious beliefs down all the followers of god's throats!
Mega facts. Especially when we had trauma from the past of force feeding religion to us.
Fair enough
Hey whatever works to floats your boat I never gave a second thought what works for me works for me. It works for other people works for other people you donât have to be a hater you donât have to preach you donât have to even post a preach.
Just got home from rehab .
Been sober for 33 days .
Way to go!
I believe our galaxy is a cell in a higher powers body and that that higher powers galaxy is a cell to an even higher power and so on and so forth. This belief works for me because I have always been a man of science and there is evidence to back it up.
Itâs your higher Power tht makes it Possible
Agree with this post, and I love Rainn Wilson. Wise guy right there
Thanks for sharing this.
I'm going to give the answer to this debate, then drop the
.
We seem to be talking AA, because How it works was posted. I will assume then, that this is really you don't need God to recover in AA.
This book was published in 1939. In 5 short years, there was enough push back that during the 2nd printing, Appendix II was added. Pg 567 in the 4th addition.
The initial printing gave the reader the opinion that a white light, God moment was necessary to recover. In 5 short years, the original author, Bill Wilson sets the record straight.
I'm going to use quotes, but I am paraphrasing because I don't have it in front of me... the answer to this:
"Most emphatically we wish to state that any alcoholic capable of facing his problems honestly, in the light of our experience can recover, provided he does not close his mind to all spiritual concepts."
Honesty + whatever else you can muster. But Honesty, is the only must.
Bill W only said those things because Jimmy B wouldn't let up regarding the religious stuff. Jim Burwell. Atheist AA, one of the first 100.
