You Do NOT Need God To Get/Stay Sober

If someone tells you this, they are a religious fruitcake trying to convert you.

I find that the use of "higher power" is also a bit misleading sometimes. Especially when the religious type tell you "it could just be Group Of Drunks" etc. More secret indoctrination of the belief of Sky Daddy (read Rainn Wilson's book, Soul Boom).

I found this share regarding the idea of a "higher power" to be pretty interesting. Let me know what you think of it. I am not trying to argue about "god" here. This isn't a god post. This is a god-free post, for the ones struggling with the god word. Anyway, read this:

Non theistic Satanist here. I absolutely believe that Christians or followers of God will do anything in their power to convert someone. Being a Satanist, I don't need a god to be a good person. They need to learn respect for those who choose not to follow.

Don't need to disparage other people's beliefs either, (unless it helps with your insecurity).

I didn't disparage anything except maybe pushy believers.

Sure.
Coming right out the gate with calling people fruitcakes isn't disparaging at all

Blah blah blah. Cry about it.

From who Taylor is disparaging is those who have to judge someone by their beliefs, and feel the need to try and convert someone, not the followers of God who don't put their noses into someone else's life and actually let them believe what they want.

Those are people who are always forcing Jesus in someone's life is literally toxic and psychotic because they just can't leave the satanists (theistic or non theistic), atheists, and the other religions alone if it doesn't involve Jesus or God, because we are seen as "evil" or not pure, when you don't even need to worship God to be a good person.

When I was a teenager, I was told to repent and was forced to pray by a church who had a tent set up at a fall festival JUST because I had a Children Of Bodom shirt on which gave me lots of trauma. Plus, my biological mother had Mormons come over all the time to keep trying to brainwash me which never worked on me except give me more trauma. Thirdly, I've been handed those stupid pamphlets and little books that talk about how not following God is the true reason why I'm depressed, which is not even true! And lastly, I stopped believing in God because the last time I prayed to him, my older sister died the next day from a drug induced homicide.

So yes, Jesus freaks, bible thumpers, are in fact nutcases because they can't even follow the biggest quote in the Bible (Love thy neighbor) and are the causes of the modern day holy war. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path. Those who
do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple
program, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with
themselves. There are such unfortunates. They are not at fault; they seem to have been born
that way. They are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a manner of living which
demands rigorous honesty. Their chances are less than average. There are those, too, who
suffer from grave emotional and mental disorders, but many of them do recover if they have the capacity to be honest.

Mmk.

My thoughts stand. No god necessary for sobriety.

I don't understand how you think that God is needed for recovering. I'm literally almost 3 years clean from drugs and happily counting the days I'm sober from drugs, but do I have the need to follow a god to help me? No. Am I gonna force feed you my godless lifestyle and make you live it? F*CK NO!! Yes I am satanic, but I believe that there is no deities that exist. Which is why I am a non theistic Satanist. When we say "Hail Satan", we really say "Hail Thyself"! Taylor and I are breathing proof of evidence that YOU DO NOT NEED A GOD FOR YOUR RECOVERY! That is all you doing it.

I'm not sure what exactly he was trying to say, whether it's a retort to my post or whatever. But ya know, who cares? This post isn't for him or even that other guy.

And that's why I absolutely despise the Jesus freaks who think that God is superior, others have to follow even if that means brainwashing them, or getting them to convert. That's definitely the main cause of the holy war, and it's literally a massive ick to reality. We speak the truth and will never force feed someone out godless lifestyle like how good people should.

I think a lot of them are just like when you hear a song that you think is amazing and you want everyone to hear it, you wanna share it, it feels so deep to you, but other people are like. "Yeah. I guess?" And that I understand. But the pushing etc I don't get.

But, this wasn't to debate them. This is just reaching out for others having trouble with The God Word. So they don't feel alone.

And I saw it that way too! People definitely need to understand that you don't need a deity to actually be sober, or even a good person. It's all in your mental power to do so!

I believe that about sums it up..

In my sobriety I need there to be a God.. I’m not a Bible thumper nor am I crazy.. I think everyone has the right to believe what they want. But I believe God gives me the strength to make it one day at a time.. but I’m sure Satan isn’t going to help you do anything except to continue to drink and do drugs.. because that’s what he does.. he doesn’t want you to have any peace in your life.. maybe you should try it.. it sure can’t hurt..!!

And good for you for not shoving your religion down our throats, but I do think you need to understand us a little more. I claim to be a non theistic Satanist. That means I personally do not believe in God nor Satan as I believe they are fictional. I say Hail Satan and really mean hail thyself. Taylor does not believe in deities either. We're saying that God didn't make you sober. You made YOU sober!

This post isn't for you then, Jan. You need god, cool. There are 100 other post that are on about about god. Hang out there, and recite your weird, Codependent, contradictory nursery rhymes ("I am not the center of the universe, but the being that I believe created the universe cares about me and sometimes helps me in my life").

Sure, Jan.

Not sure who you're referring to here, Amanda. I'm not changing the name of anything, I don't believe in god or "satan". I DO believe in "the universe" but I don't believe that it/he/she/they/whatever works in my life, for me. It just is. Like a forest, like, if I lived in a forest, I could say "the forest provides for me, it gives me food and water etc" which would partly true. It does those things because it's a forest, those things just happen to be there, it (the forest) is not creating them just for me, nothing could be more self centered than believing that a forest is taking care of me , for my sake. Nonsense. I'm just a part of the forest. I can open my eyes and look around and find food (you find more food when youre scanning for it), or I can sit there and wait for it to be "handed" to me, which there's always a chance that I might stumble upon food without much effort. But it's probably better if I actually work for it.
