You don't get sober unless you want to! You have

You don't get sober unless you want to! You have to have that fire in your belly, that drive. I believe once you've got that, you're well on your way down a sober path. I'm blessed to have that fire, support, and love. I hope you have it too.

No one changes, until the pain is greater than the fear of change.

Keep the momentum. Fire will get you through most days. Some days fire might not be enough. Then you rely on memories of the pain of the old life.

I know more than a few who claim they need to get sober but fail to admit they want to get sober. Occasional postings here by people stating they need to get clean but omit the part of wanting it.
I guess these people just need more convincing, even when there's a mountain of evidence stating the obvious. I just pray for these people & hope they find the willingness & honesty before it's too late.

I knew I needed to quit waaaaay before I wanted to. Even when a doctor told me I needed to stop drinking, I did so begrudgingly for a while but I was pissed I couldn’t be like everyone else and felt like something was being taken from me unfairly. After three months, I was drinking again, just a little at first but eventually right back where I was.
Thank the good Lord, after some time and circumstances that I went through, I came to the decision and realization on my own that I wanted it. I want my life back. I want a strong relationship w my God, my husband, and family. I want to be healthy. I want to live. Now I know nothing is being taken from me, I’m experiencing the gift of sobriety. Not to say it’s easy, but I want it more than anything. It’s making all the difference!

Thanks for sharing!! We all have our own special journey. Sobriety is worth it all!

I think the key is deciding to quit. Really making that decision and setting up a system of a new way of living. Making that decision is not so easy.

Exactly. You have to want it.
