You want to know what is kind of pathetic? Now that I’m not drunk and out of control all the time, no one really checks up on me anymore. Not that many people really did, but at least a few. Even though sobriety is even more difficult and I feel worse than ever.
This is me checking up on you! Hope all is well. You look fantastic lately and just seem "better", whatever you're doing, keep it up!!
I hope you’re doing ok . If you need a new friend I’m here
Sobriety is a good way to find out who your real friends are. Your true friends will be happy you're trying to improve friends. As for your party friends, best to let them go. They never cared about you in the 1st place.
It’s why we develop a foundation to fall back on. Surrounding ourselves with others in recovery. Hope you can keep reaching out to others.
The people who were checking up on your probably didn't understand what being an addict consists of and how it affects our emotions and overall day to day. Give them and yourself grace and if you ever need to talk or vent I'm here for ya! Stay strong!
What?!? Drinking friends don’t check on you now. Crazy
. Just playin. Seriously my new sober friends and people from other healthy networks will hunt me down if they don’t hear from me. Just gotta find your peeps friend.
Just to clarify, I cut off ties with all my drinking friends awhile back. I’ve had a very small circle of people I confide in for several months now, even before I got sober. And now, even my small circle of people that I love and trust seem to assume that I’m okay now that I’m not drinking, if that makes sense.
Unfortunately non-addicts only see our problem is the physical drug/drink. They think without it we are miraculously “fixed.”
I think that’s natural, that people who used to check on you all of the time were concerned - and now that you’re sober, their fears are lessened. You can always reach out to them, just to see what’s going on with them.
I totally get it.
It makes me sad too that’s why I come on here.
It’s lonely but we do have to take care of ourselves.
I’m here if you ever want to chat!!!!
Big big hug!!
I think it’s the stigma that goes along with the disease. I have unfortunately have had the same reaction my family treats me as though I have the plague! But I believe that with all my heart that God stands with me and will never leave me no mater how difficult it seems. Keep doing the right thing. Reaching out to support like this space. You are so worth it
I’m checking up on you! I feel this, after rehab I had to move in with my dad, after ab a year of sobriety I moved out on my own again, what really got me into this mess in the first place, and no one checks on me lol they all must think I got this!
Since these are people that aren’t you’re drinking friends, why not reach out and just tell them what’s going on? Could hurt.
Couldn’t ^
Almost on my second year of being sober and I just started realizing no one was checking on me at all, just gotta keep moving forward some past relationships should just stay in the past.
I think that’s a good sign. You don’t want people checking on you like there is something wrong all the time. You want to be forging ahead with what makes you happy and picking up people along the way with your enthusiasm.
I’m so sorry you’re lacking support. I know it’s hard but make as many sober friends and connections as you can. You can do it.
Rachel, there is no exact playbook for sobriety or for just starting out on this parth and journey. I found in my experience it was literally one day at a time. It's still a struggle each day we are all not perfect. Just find and do what makes you and your family happy without the cost of suffering back down the addiction route whatever that was for you.
It's taken years for me to get to where I'm at now but I'm more comfortable with myself and having clarity and facing things head on than I was when I was always slaughtered, avoiding the real issues. Personal growth is so awesome once you embrace it and you are changing for the better or have changed and that's main difference. Good for you. Stick to it. And reach out anytime you want. I will reply as much as I can.
