Your thoughts wanted. My daughter is turning 21 next week and I was wondering how I should approach this. When I turned 21 drinking was a right of passage but I feeling like as her day approaches to not be apart of it and instead have a talk with her and celebrate privately. Am I being selfish? Tyia

I feel ya. My daughter turned 21 in march of 2020 the day they shut everything down. Made my decision easy. Lol. My ex, who’s an earth person, took her out. We can’t control our kids. Just always be there for them soberly. My daughter is awesome. Doesn’t appear to have my disease. Is a mommy now also.

My son was 21 when I got sober. He did experience drinking prior to that. I know he has alcohol stocked in his apartment. A conversation about alcohol came up and he told me that he put limits on his drinking because he saw what I went through and knows it can be hereditary. My kids saw way more then I thought they did. Since, ‘I could hide it really well’. Lol. By his definition, social drinking is playing a video game with 2 or more people on the head set. Lol

What 21 year old girl wants to hang out with her dad on her 21rst bbay? Don't try to control anything, just be accessible and let her make her own choices. Anything you were gonna teach her already happened years ago. Just be there for her if she needs help. She might not have the same issues we have.
