I don’t think you β€œalways have it” I honestly don’t adhere to this dogma from the AA groups. I think it’s a choice. Yes, there are physiological issues once you’re β€œaddicted” but the initial intake was a choice.

I can't speak for anyone else but in rehab I learned there is a genetic difference between those that have alcoholism/addiction in the family and those that don't. We watched this video where they compared two different brains and it totally disproved my way of thinking which was exactly like yours!
While yes, it is true, we choose to use or drink but once we do, we lose control. That is the difference between the genetics.
I know for myself, even after 23 yrs. my tolerance level is still the same because I had to do alot of investigating before I finally stayed and it would be like playing with fire to believe the lies my head tells me...as it I could just pick it up and put it down whenever I wished!! It doesn't just go away after some time! My first relapse was after 6/2 yrs because I believed that way! So for whatever this is worth, if not you, I hope this helps someone :slightly_smiling_face:

Mine didn’t go away either. I didn’t drink for over 25 years, but once I picked again…:boom:

Yeah...they weren't just makin stuff up back in 1936 right??!!
