2nd DUI, stress and sadness

I spent 4.5 days in a 23.5hr/day cell lock down after being arrested for my 2nd DUI. I had never been in jail before. I got out of jail on Monday. It was horrible. I have never had a worse experience in my life. I am 8 days sober now but the stress of what is upcoming in my life has me really beat up. Hard times. Any support is appreciated.

Anson it’s not the end of the world…. Things will be rough for a little bit but they’ll pass…. Start going to meetings if you haven’t already or some sort of support.

Thanks man. I do go to meetings and I have a sponsor. I'm plugged in to a recovery community in my area. I have people I can call who understand. Its still just hard and very depressing. Day after day for a while now.... My court date is in December and I might have to go back to jail bc I can't afford lawyer. Who F'ing knows ...

I still just need support, any will do

You can do this!! Just one day at a time. One hour at a time. And sometimes one minute at a time.
I’ve been exactly where you are now. Please please have faith. Get connected and pray!!! It will get better in time. I promise you!!

I been in your shoes !!! I got 2 duis and jail is the worst thing ever! But you know what after a month I was back drinking and drugging and forgot all about how I felt those days I was in jail and when I got arrested . This disease is no joke .Take it a day at a time and just remember that you are suppose to feel like this . Any other human being in your shoes will feel the exact same way. So let yourself feel what you’re feeling but just know you don’t have to use or drink over it because it’s totally normal to feel like this

Do iop now. Get a lawyer. Get sober. Get plugged into a recovery program. Miracles happen in sobriety. Hope this was a wake up call. Jails, institutions, and death is the road to using.

Thanks Hugo, that was very helpful for me

Of course brother that’s why we here

I just settled my court case for a second DUI so I feel your pain. I got out of jail AND inpatient (which my lawyer said was basically a miracle) by showing that I do weekly addiction therapy, just started neurotherapy and do daily meetings (through zoom). I probably lost my liecense for longer than you will bc I’m in MA and got hit with Melanie’s law. What helped me is viewing it as a new chapter in life. I’m 28 days sober and can’t wait to reach long term sobriety (God willing). I’m taking the next few years to go back to school and focus on my future. I hope you can shift your mindset a little to give you more hope than despair.

I have 3 bud, I’m sober over 6 months, I have a sponsor and my IOP is helping me with my license. IOP has plenty of tools to help you get back on your feet. Grateful forever to them. I wish you luck

I've had 3 man. Last one was 2019 and was put off due to covid. It's stressful yes. But, you can get through it. Work with your sponsor, take your time in processing, find gratitude in the little things. Want to talk I'm here for you. I'm working up to my third year sober now. You got this!

Take things one day at a time and do the next right thing. Don't be discouraged by the long road ahead of you. Use your experience as an aid too your soberiety.

I lost my license for over a decade for 2 DUIs. Focus on your soberiety not the pain which may reside. Work the steps, get a sponsor go to meetings and things will work out for the betterment over time. Hope that helps.

You can make it through this. I pray you can find the support and guidance of a strong treatment program (IOP allows a person to stay home and work and so on).

I am thankful that you have this reprieve to find recovery.
