83 days sober!! What have you found to be most helpful in early recovery?

Congratulations on 83 days Michelle! The most useful tool for me when I was in early recovery was pausing. Pausing before acting, pausing before making a choice, pausing before speaking.

For me it was service work. Got me out of myself and forced me to meet new people

Don’t drink, go to meetings. 90 in 90 turned into 200 in 200 turned into 300 in 365 (it was actually a little more than 300, but 300 was my goal lol). The time spent in those rooms was gold! I still did over 200 in my second year and do about 3 per week now.

Congrats! Positive outlook as hard as it might be at times.

Agree with this, and be nice to yourself!

Going to meetings and pausing.

Keeping commitments and staying connected in order to limit the amount of alone time when my addiction would try its hardest

I think we might have the same sober date… so far journaling, setting positive intentions, mindfulness and lots of therapy:). Glad to see you sober today

Congrats Michelle! Early recovery is very difficult. Becoming aware, and beginning to feel again was horrible! Coming to terms with the destruction and wreckage I caused to myself and my loved ones was a nightmare I had been running from for years. There’s no way I’d be where I am today without the fellowship of AA. I’d have to say meetings were the number 1 thing that helped me. It was there where I met people who loved me and accepted me when I couldn’t do these thing sir myself. It’s meetings where I heard stories of people who did similar things as I had done, and were now living a happy and productive life. Meetings have me hope when I had none!

Congratulations! What a HUGE accomplishment. I found meditation, positivity, and a sense of mindfulness. Meetings were also very integral.

Congrats on 83 days sober. Great question! For me I found that I had to get completely honest with myself and others around me. I was asked in out patient treatment “what’s one thing you can do differently this time?” This isn’t my first time in treatment. I had to really honestly look at my life at that moment in time. I knew that if I didn’t come clean with my alcoholism and compulsive additive behaviors I wouldn’t get the treatment I need. My situation also had a lot to do with my mindset as I was kicked out of my home and moved in with my dad. Today I’m grateful for my dad giving me a place to live. I was spiritually broken, mentally and physically as well. I joined AA, NA, Life ring, recovery Dharma very early on. I went to meetings and listened to what others said about their life. I shared openly about mine. I really became open minded about the possibility that something greater them my self could restore me to sanity. Find a group/recovery program that works for you. Give it your best and be of service to others.

Time management can be crucial in early recovery.

Rethinking and reframing old thought patterns is what keeps me happy and on track so far. Letting go of all that doesn’t serve, booze included

I tried to take care of myself. I was sick for several months after going cold turkey. I imagine going cold turkey at age 64 was probably not the best decision I ever made. So I tried to eat right, stop putting junk into my body. I journaled once in a while. Rested a lot. Now I find that trying to work on my faith helps a lot. I try to think of my life in grateful terms. I make a list of things I am grateful for every day.

Congratulations!!!!

Follow direction and don't use no matter what
