Iam a 20 year meth adict and yoga and meditation saved my life Iam 5 months straight clean my life is beautiful now I actually love my self now for the first time in my life wich in return made my kids and all around me proud and happy so def try this it will change your whole life
Hot Yoga works! Also go to meetings when you might normally drink. I go to one every day at 4:30 or 6:00pm then to the gym. By the time you get home itâs time to eat something healthy for dinner and bed at 10. Itâs worth trying.
I carry a little notebook in my left pocket. Before I was sober, this pocket was mostly empty. My hand will bump into it from time to time and its a physical reminder about what my goals are. Doesnât have to be a notebook to do this though. My clothes may also have bigger pockets than yours as well
If you do find a suitable notebook, its great for acknowledging triggers/cravings. I will write them down, name them after something I dislike and want to avoid (mainly variations of my exs names lol) and then I write a strategy to address it. Sometimes just going through that writing process will kick it. Naming it makes it personal and then I can address it directly.
Yoga & meditation, physical activity too! I like to run. Alcohol releases a hormone and that same hormones is released while doing physical activityâs
Narcotics anonymous has a very insightful app. Just for todays. Meeting locator. Aa has an app called spiritual tools. Has daily readings prayers etc.
those help to set the pace on the daily. Medatation
Eating breakfast and lots of meetings get as many female phone numbers as you can
And stay busy!!
In the beginning I stayed in contact with as many people as possible. Find recreational activities. Sunday recovery yoga was huge for example. Be intentional with your morning get up pray read a spiritual text. Meditation is a huge asset. Reach out to people on here. A alcholic alone is in bad company. Stick with the winners.
Itâs absolutely FREE all they ask is that you have at least 48hrs sobriety and thereâs soooooo much they offer the sober community to do!
Check it out and see if they have anything in your area.
I went to as many meetings as I could in the beginning - met others and had a small network of sober people to contact if I was feeling goofy.
Taking time for yourself everyday. For me that's sitting in my car by myself with coffee, listening to NPR and playing Wordle and NYT Spelling Bee before work in the morning.
Anything you can do so as to not feel rushed.
Start building a routine for yourself. It took me three months but my days now start at 5am and start with a form of meditation. Never did I ever thing I would wake up at 5am willingly but through pushing myself I got here. Things that have helped me have been, meditation, healthy cooking, journaling, gym in the weekdays, yoga in the weekends. YouTube has been a huge resource for me for finding all kinds of meditations and inspirational videos.
Congrats on 60 days!!
Meetings and service work.
Jenna how have your gotten this far? What has worked for you so far? Hot Yoga and the gym are all good ideas. I didnât read every response but the truth is if you want to be sober and free you need AA. I understand all the reasons why people hesitate but I promise you if you give it a chance and try following their suggestions you will not only be sober, youâll become happy Joyous and free. Itâs just takes the willingness to try it. AA will do the rest.
Have a great day!
Read! Start your day with an hour of reading, plug your phone in and walk away. End your day with a workout, helps you sleep so well.
Exercise is a huge one. Get to a meeting on a regular basis. Develop a routine and stick to it.
I agree with adding physical activity of any sort into your new life. It helps!
Congratulations on 60 days. I pray everyday. I also keep busy by attending AA meetings, I lead a recovering addict/alcoholic Bible study, read, and go on walks to clear my head daily. I also started taking cooking class to fill my time and give me something else to do
Celebrate Recovery!
