Anxiety at night

Lately it seems my anxiety is at its worst at night. I’ve tried different things to bring my anxiety done. Unfortunately, I just can’t seem to shut my brain off.

I use a sound machine, read, or sometimes listen to a podcast…the distraction of listening to something else other than my thoughts works well.

Thank you!

I would suggest seeing a doctor. It took me trying a couple different things before I could sleep.
If you don’t want to go the medication route then I suggest meditation. It works wonders! The first couple minutes it might seem likes it’s not working. But finish the audio and by the end you will feel much better.
I struggle with horrible anxiety and use both to go to sleep. Hope this is helpful!

I was given the practice of mindfulness 5,4,3,2,1. It helps you be in the present. Use all five of your senses to notice things, 5 things you see, 4 things you hear...etc...anxiety comes from living in the future and depression comes from living in the past.

Hey Amanda! I messaged you!

Same here, long walks in the evening help some

Watch something really boring that you know will be stuck in your head kinda like that random song that's stuck right now...

Try working out

I’ve been there. Anxiety was the worst after a day of drinking and following days after.
Try vitamin B, magnesium, L-the anime, iron Omega DHA. Your body is probably deficient . Ask your doc for blood work to see where you are lacking.

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback!

I wish I could offer some advice.. I’ve been sober for 3+ years now and started dealing with some pretty nasty anxiety over the last few months.. just know you are not alone! I have a doc appointment next week for it

It’s nice to hear I’m not alone in the battle with anxiety. It hasn’t been this bad in years.

I went through a lengthy spell of anxiety with a major side effect of insomnia. It lasted for almost a year. I couldn’t shut my brain off at all. I was constantly worrying about things I couldn’t control. Things that ultimately had no direct impact on my life. They just hurt. The things that helped me most were the Headspace app and a book titled “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F@ck” by Mark Manson. It’s a great read and I still open it to this day!! Good luck Amanda!!! You can do it!! This too shall pass!!!

Try to turn off your phone 30 mins before bedtime, trying to keep the same bedtime every night, meditate, things are some things that have partially worked for me. Along with breathing exercises and the 5 senses technique someone mentioned too. Def seek medical help if available to you

Is it maybe because night is when you did the most drinking or at least that’s where it all starts?
