Just don’t drink it’s that simple

You know something y’all kill me with this. Isn’t this a app for people struggling with addiction and trying to get better. If it was that simple there would be no addicts.

Ok I’m sorry if that came off cold and I know it’s easier for some then others , I think you have to really want to stop to pull it off . I suggest making a list of the good things alcohol did for you and a list of how it harmed you , try to spend time with people who don’t drink and want to live sober , get exercise outside preferably and keep praying to god for help .

No it’s ok I understand there are stronger willed people who can just stop. Thank you for the advice on making a list. I will incorporate that into my day.:pray:

Get to a meeting. More than one a day is good.

Reading, watching TV, exercise, walking, meeting, meeting, meeting!

Anything non negative that can distract you from falling into that pattern. Do weird stuff, in fact. Something you wouldn't normally do. Gotta make a new "normal"

Get a good network of people in AA get a sponsor…move a muscle change a thought attitude…go to as many mtgs as possible it’s your safe place…get the book ā€œLiving Soberā€. Helped me tremendously in the beginning…. Finally lasso your Higher Power to help you do the next right thing…

Early on, at least until physical withdrawals subsided, the idea of ā€œthe next right thingā€ was super helpful.

Have a sudden craving? Redirect your attention to the next right thing you can do (at times it was minute-by-minute for me), even if it’s just doing the dishes.

The next right thing can be anything you want. A brief meditation, some push-ups, housework, a quick sprint to the end of the block, a hobby, etc. Distraction + feeling of accomplishment = good for sobriety.

Lastly, and I really believe this, I think if you’re committed and and deeply physically addicted, a one week inpatient or intensive outpatient (medically-guided/assisted) detox can help most people get over that first major hurdle, and then two meetings/day, slowly tapering to at least one meeting/week.

Anyway, hope that helps and best wishes. Yourself thanks yourself ;-).
