Day 1 *Again*

I don’t know how the f*** to do this. I have struggled since 2017 with this addiction and my whole life with mental illness. One thing I have learned is that they go hand in hand. I’m tired of the lying and ALL the excuses and hurting people and people hurting me. ALL the manipulation and mind games with myself and others. This next week- week and a half is going to be h*** I know that. Im lazy. And all I want to do is EAT!! Don’t care about anything, about hurting anyones precious feelings, because they are looking at me to long or the wrong way. I don’t want to be like that. I’ve done this a bunch and don’t want this way of life anymore. What are your first couple days getting sober like???

First couple months were hard. I didn’t like people at the time either but meetings saved me and found a great sponsor eventually. Get numbers and call people as much as you don’t want to. Working the steps has been a life changer

Ikr!! Glad to be supportive. Can’t entertain thoughts is using and you will suffer probably at first. So prepare yourself for that. AA/NA saved my life truly. I was in denial and you may not be. That’s good.

I was in withdrawal for several months. Tell your doctor about your plan. May need detox.

Follow Mark's advice. At least give it an honest try.
I am an addict/drunk and the program is working for me.

You owe it to yourself, and honestly anyone who comes in contact with you, to try. AA can help you, if you let it.

It’s a simple program. Right?? Then why is it so hard??

I’m :100: with Mark, I needed detox and AA to get to where I’m at today. My sponsorship family taught me how to live an honest and fulfilling life with integrity.

For those people who are giving you a hard time, be an example of what a life of principle ought to be. You deserve a good life

It’s a simple program for complicated people.
I’m sure you know that everything gets out of wack when we’re getting wasted. You may consider detox to get your body and mind in balance. Meantime, get to a meeting every day. Several if possible.

The first few months were terrible. Dealing with emotions, embarrassment, self loathing, shame, guilt… it is a simple program if you work it. Sounds like you are at the bottom, now you and only you can make yourself climb out. Ya gotta just jump in and do it.

Sum it up in one word…. Pain. Tons of it. It’s gets better but it’s agony beyond belief. Learning to deal with it is only something you can do if you are willing to help yourself

I felt insane getting off crystal meth and alcohol. You just have to take it one second at a time, seriously. Get through life minute by minute, then hour by hour, and eventually one day at a time.

We do recover, slowly but steadily. Do not get disappointed by slow progress. There is so much beauty and growth in the process of recovery, although painful.

If it were simple I’d be a lot further along lol

It’s hard. We’re learning how to change our own minds. That, in and of itself, is a mindf**k, let alone the additional requirements to journey deep to places we’ve been hiding from for so long.

One of the biggest problems with people staying clean & sober, and this isn't geared toward any particular person, is that there are suggestions that are made in the program but people continually try to do things their way, failing every time.

It happened with me back in 1990 and it happens with others today.

I've never done crystal meth. But back in the 70s and early 80s I did amphetamines. Some of the amphetamines I did had something else in them that made me feel like I could do just about anything I wanted as long as the high lasted. But once the high was over with I came down and I was a very mean person. Somehow or another I managed to get off of those drugs on my own. But the one that really gave me a lot of trouble was alcohol.

Us addicts/alcoholics are not bad people. We are sick people trying to get better. The good news is that you are not alone and you don't have to go this alone. This app is great for moral support but it is not a solution.

The solution is an entire psychic change. This comes from going through the 12 Steps of AA/NA.

The Following comes from a chapter entitled the Doctor's Opinion in the big book of AA and can be applied to anyone that is struggling with either alcohol or drugs.

Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol. The sensation is so elusive that, while they admit it is injurious, they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false. To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one.

They are restless, irritable and discontented,

unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks--drinks which they see others taking with impunity. After they have succumbed to the desire again, as so many do, and the

phenomenon of craving

develops, they pass through the well-known stages of a spree, emerging remorseful, with a firm resolution not to drink again. This is repeated over and over, and unless this person can experience an

entire psychic change

there is very little hope of his or her recovery.

Can you relate to this at all?

I’m tired of messing up today is day 1 and feel like I’ve lost already

Yes deff. Can relate totally. I get sick of getting high, know and feel like I can handle it and anything that comes my way. When I’m high. I hasn’t been a full day yet and my energy i don’t even know what that is. Part of me is like one more time just to clean up this house deep down I know good n well this house is not gonna get cleaned. It’s only the beginning.

When I quit Adderal I was exhausted until my brain started making that stuff again. It won’t be easy. NA has one promise. Stick with the program a nd you will loose your desire to use. Happened for me in AA with drinking. That is your higher power doing for you what you can’t do for yourself. No higher power? Make the group your higher power. Just give meetings a shot.

12 step programs have saved millions of lives.

Check out Loving Kindness Mediation (LKM) on YouTube. It’s about loving yourself. Very helpful.

It’s not a simple program and don’t ever let anyone try and tell you that it’s never a cure for this so what does that tell you??? You got to fight it just for today tell your self that everyday I’m not going to get height for today also make meetings it’s very important I was never open and Willing to until I walked in a room and everyone was just like me I feel safer around people that can actually relate to me then them just saying they understand just keep pushing you will get never let anyone come in between that space of you let recovery
