Day 5 and just keep crying. Any tips?
Motivate yourself to do some self care because it works great in the process of healing. Something as small as taking a hot shower, face mask, cleaning the space you live in. Find a good series to watch, look up some new recipes to cook. It's ok to cry, it's ok to feel down but we just can't stay in that place. Pick yourself up, you got this:muscle:t4:
Thank you for your tips and open heart. First day here and everyone is so kind. It has been a few days since I've motivated myself to shower. Thank you again and let me know if you ever need an ear.
How do you motivat yourself to love yourself when you are an orphan that’s been given up on your whole life and have a habit of self sabotage???
You work towards defining your future. I am from a similar situation and all that has brought me joy and comfort has been working towards who I want to be day by day. Take it as motivation to live your life. If you can see what you give to the world everyday then you'll start to see that being forced into circumstances out of your control you'll see you control you even then. See your own power, worth, forgiveness, and heart.
Thank you!
Maybe it is your time to cry. I wish I would have cried. I think I was more mad. Maybe crying is keeping you from doing something else that you don’t want to do. Talk to yourself and you will get through this. I’m happy to listen too.
Cryin and tryin is better than picking up. My only tip (?) is to give yourself compassion and grace. This is not an easy path. Crying sounds healthy ( to me ). Rooting for you and everyone here, Jane.
Meeting
SO sorry you’re hurting and totally relate!!!! Keep hitting as many meetings as possible and don’t use in between them. It really will get easier with each day of sobriety. I’m also a HUGE believer in the MIRACLE of working through the 12-steps WITH a sponsor. In my opinion, THAT is where the miracle happens. Until we do that, we’ve just lost the one solution we’ve ever known and have nothing else to replace it with. The steps and meetings are where we find our NEW, BETtER solution. My two cents….
I'm on day 12 and I still cry about things. Nothing gets better overnight but they will. One day at a time. It's the fact that now you are feeling your emotions as opposed to masking them with alcohol.
Great tips! I love this app and it has saved my hind end. In 14 months I have had all the up’s and downs. The mad the sad (mostly mad lol) I cried all the time for months! It’s a hard road but we’ll worth it. There are still days I wallow in guilt and self hate. But it is easier to get out of. The beat things for me were to actually take a shower and read a book. I got a free ebook app and just spent a few minutes reading sone silly fun short novel that I found interesting. Or color if that’s your thing. Or cook an egg and just sit down and eat it and thank God for a safe quiet calm meal that I made haven’t had in a long long time. That helped me. And it sound silly but even a few minutes of solitaire or sone game on my phone
self care can be simple and remember, God loves you and saved you and if you aren’t there yet believe that you are still on this earth therefore sone higher power has a plan and it’s a good one so you are loved by that higher power even if you can’t love you yet:heart: hang in there and don’t get stuck in your head alone. Find a sponsor and just reach out anytime. Message me anytime I’m usually here and I’d be glad to help! Keep up the good work!
Deep breath and focus on how amazing it is that you are already on day 5! Don't get trapped in your head, sometimes its a dangerous place. You're doing a great job!
My mother in law is my sponsor. She has been through this and is also a therapist. It's easier because she can come to me. I can't really do meetings because I have genetic condition that makes me immuno- compromised. I was basically born allergic to my own hormones so my immune system attacks my organs and tissue because it can't recognize they belong there. That's what started my drinking was and is the constant pain and swelling. I wake up feeling like my muscles are on fire and my organs inflamed. Trying some nerve meds but they only take the edge off. I'm gonna try a therapist that works with chronic pain through Tele health.
Hi Jane, have you tried zoom meetings? There are a ton of zoom meetings right now, either through AA or the countless other programs. The Luckiest Club offers only zoom meetings, and SMART Recovery and Dharma Recovery have zoom meetings right now too. Also, for the chronic pain, something that really shifted my relationship with chronic pain was the book Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Thanks I'll give it a go. I do love to read.
I too have the crying spells… I have come to realize that it’s so many different things. But mainly your body allowing your mind to feel actual feelings that you have hidden behind being high…. I am on day 3, I am very inconsistent in recovery, but I notice when I try to get clean my mind get overwhelmed and full of anxiety, from simply feeling feelings soberly. It’s ok to cry. Let it out.
I was the same way when I first got sober! I think I had suppressed my emotions for so long that they just absolutely had to come out. It’s a scary feeling but I learned to be okay with the vulnerability. It doesn’t make me weak. In fact it takes a lot of strength to just authentically release what you’ve been holding back.
You're emotions and hormones are all out of whack. It will get better but only with time. Try to keep your mind busy and seek medication. I take Librium (chlordiazepoxide) and it really helps. I also got on antabuse for my first year. It mainly helped me by knowing in the back of my mind that if i were to drink id get super sick. Prayers and strength. You got this!
Keep cryin keep feelin. It will get better. Understand what it means to feel and you will never need to numb yourself again. Be well
