Had a small conversation with a “friend” last night and that was his comment after I told him what I did for the day. Mind you, the following is what my Saturday looked like: 5 mile walk, smoothie making, 2 hour nap, reading, dinner and a movie, followed by reading and prayer before bed.
So please, for the beeeeep sake of the universe, tell me how TF is that “fighting to stay good”?!? I replied to him and laughed and said “Just a typical day when I’m not working or camping or fishing. No desire to drink, so I’m good!”
Venting on this because 1. He was drunk and 2. Who the beep do people think they are with comments like that.
Time to move on! Thanks for reading. Happy Sunday to ya!
Sorry you had to deal with that.
Thank you
This story speaks volumes. Talk about projection. FFS..
Well, it's not necessarily a bad comment depending on how you look at it. Fighting to stay good is a good thing, no?? Every time, any of us who are truky trying to be decent!!! people are fighting to stay good because let's face... There's plenty of bad out there in the world!! So if managing a healthy regimen and doing things that are productive and conducive to a 'good life' - then absolutely... You were figjring to stay good. And it's a tough fight! Especially when giving up and becoming bad is such an easy thing to do. Perhaps your friend isn't really good with words. Perhaps your friend sees you making progress in life that he can't fathom doing himself. Perhaps sobriety is unachievable in his eyes and his admiration towards how someone else does it seems unachievable. The battle to stay sober when you realize how easy it is to bury things with drink is a fight indeed. Be proud that you're winning the battle for today. Don't borrow so much anxiety or resentment from someone who can't even relate to the place you're in with your life!
Not sure what FFS means
If your name wasn’t Nick on here I’d think it was Brett! lol That’s my best friends name and boy does your comment remind me of him. Definitely something he would say.
I appreciate the positivity in the post, but the comment my buddy made was quite opposite. “Those who don’t drink are boring and not living life to the fullest”, is what he really meant. But you are right in the end. He doesn’t think 1 either it’s achievable in his eyes or 2 just doesn’t want to. And that’s ok either way.
Appreciate the feedback!
I'm often baffled at how drunk people say 'what do you for fun if you don't drink??'. My answer is always "whatever I want!" because that's the only correct answer! Those who only associate 'fun' with being hammered all the time are the ones who haven't had any fun in a very long time. I used to look through the same lens on this issue and it was baffling toe. Like.. How did sober people have fun?? I think half of it was general curiosity and the other half was envy. I couldn't have fun unless I was drunk. Eight years and a ton of great memories later - I realize that I didn't start really finding joy in my day to day until I got sober.
It is shorthand
“For fu(ks sake”
Ooohhh!!
Makes sense now. lol
For 'F#ck' Sake
I mean.... He's right though, isn't he? You are fighting to stay "good", are you not? Whether the desire is there or not, doesn't mean you aren't still in the fight, every day.
Fighting wouldn’t be the word I chose. When I think of fighting I think of struggle. And I’m not exactly struggling to not use. And he is wrong solely because he didn’t use it in a positive way.
Fair enough!
Sounds like an unhappy individual trying to pull you down in the muck where they are currently residing. Misery loves company as they say. You should only give your time to those that preserve your energy. Not those that try to take it from you or spin it in a negative direction. It would be beneficial for you to leave that person out of your life.
Thank you! I agree, 100% There are some pretty miserable individuals out there. Which is unfortunate for them! There’s too much to life. And when one is sober, it’s just that much more. (That almost auto corrected to “moron”)
Thanks for your reply!
I make it a goal to be a moron at-least twice a day. So no offense would be taken. No problem Katie. Here to help whenever. You are definitely right about that. I love the poster of Robin Williams that says “ if you need alcohol and drugs to have a good time, then you are doing it wrong.”
At least twice a day?! Nicely done mate! Lol Robin Williams will always be the best.
I’m probably closer to 10 times a day😝
Hey! Whatever works for you. Keep on keeping on.
And stay sober. That’ll help too. lol
