Hardest part of my sobriety I'm learning is it feels

Hardest part of my sobriety I'm learning is it feels great when life is great ...but when things are hard I feel most don't like to talk about it. I'm going threw a storm im clinging to my sobriety because I know at moment 1 choice can change that . I always hear it gets easier and it dose but during dark times it's like the monsters knocking. Staying focused on my goals and keeping my routine has saved me so much ...I know it's a long post but just had to get it out of me . Not sure how this works just sharing my thoughts.

I can identify. Keep working the steps and trust the process. It gets better if you stay sober. One day at a time.

I was ready to burn everything down this week, we often don’t talk about the bad times enough, but if I reflect I’m leaving out parts of my program when I feel that way and I’m running the show, and no matter how bad it usually turns out, I still love to do it on my own sometimes but the more time I get the distance between those f—- it thoughts gets larger. No joke though, when they come they come hard, and it’s usually this program won’t work if you don’t work it. I am one of those that need constant reminding

We all have shite storms that hit us from time to time. But if you think back to active addiction.. what would it have been like? I know when I have a bad week, I can be thankful I am not drinking and making it worse. The demon is always waiting in the wings to pounce on a moment of weakness. That’s when we need to be the true warrior and not give it a chance! Great job not picking up! You got this! It can not be dark forever… the light will come back round.

I need to find a meeting I just moved to a small town in NC iv never done the steps or went to a meeting kinda just stopped but I feel I should because I have no sponsor or people like me to talk too and I know it would help I figured after a year I'd just be over it but it's still a battle ....thank you for your response .

As am I

Your right and the first thing in my head was well you know how to feel better but the bigger part of me saids if you slip things will go down hill so I'm staying strong

Wow, I gotta give you credit for doing it on your own. I never could for any length of time. I tried everything and AA was the only thing that worked for me. AA teaches me that I have a disease that is centered in my mind. ( the drink is gone but my thinking is still messed up) Then it gives me a design for living each day. It’s given me a great life. All I have to do is practice some principles, and stay out of the way.
I suggest you go to meetings and get a sponsor.

Definitely relate with you here. When it’s good it’s great, but when it’s bad it’s worse. (For me at least) I think I’ve got more reasons TO drink than I do to stay sober. But I still stay sober. It sucks! lol But, we stay the course, we stay sober, and one of these days it’ll all be ok. Just had this conversation yesterday with a friend and he said the same thing. I replied with “I got it! It’ll all be ok when we are dead.”:grimacing: But it does make sense… Any who! Good post. My name is Katie, I’m an alcoholic. Happy to be here, happy to be sober.

I agree it's why I'm reaching out on here ,I just moved to tabor city nc, I acually found a aa here tonight at 8 ....mostly what keeps me going is my son I was blessed enough (still dont understand how because i was a monster )to gain custody of him, he acually started school yesterday.....I know I'm suppose to be sober for me but when I look at him everyday or when I get a urge to want to drink I just look at him and think of everything I could lose . I need to find a community of people like me and a sponsor iv never had one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one all of this stress really comes down to me finally finding a nice place for my son and I . Then I find my landlords bf next door smoking a narcotic i wasn't even their a week I sent my son to my mom and packed up and left I didn't even try and get money back I just ran like a scared kid I have a past and it has been in the past for 7 years . I acually replaced it with alcohol and am finally a year from it so I saw that and just ran.im guessing the reality of it is just now sinking in.

Awesome. I’m glad you’re getting to a meeting tonight. I can’t say enough about AA it’s given me a life beyond my wildest dreams. I suggest you get a big book when you go. Also, it was suggested to me to do 90 meetings in 90 days. Seems like a tall order, but I found time to get wasted every day. I’ll msg you my number if you want to talk.

I have one iv ready it just took the information in alone and learned from it and yes I'm acually in a way excited . And I know I always found the time a year ago I would dring for anything a win a lose ...when I was happy when I was sad I had a reason for everything and I'm so happy to be free of that .

Good deal. Yeah, life’s good in sobriety. We all have struggles, that’s just being human, but if life’s a sh!$ sandwich and every day’s another bite I can do that drunk.
I’m all about the solution today. Honesty, open mindedness, and willingness is where it’s at. It works if you work it.

Let it all sink in and quit running. Easier said than done, but running won’t ever solve anything. Like addiction, that’s also just a temporary fix. :smirk:

I just ran from that situation because I will not be around that nore my son ...I can be around people drinking but when it comes to drugs I'm out I deserve better and so dose my son and we will not be around it, no matter what I have to do.

You said it exactly right! It’s easy when things feel great, not so much when there are complicated things going on. Alcohol/smokes/drugs etc are at our fingertips these days, it takes a ton of will power. I’m so tempted to have a drink because it’s a Friday night on a holiday weekend. Our minds play tricks on us. Hang in there
