My daughter is now 24 and has never done drugs and had one drink when she turned 21. The role model thing works.
Around 2 and a half years sober, I went into this deep, dark depression. I couldn’t get out of bed and didn’t want to, didn’t want to do anything, couldn’t even get myself up for my daughter or my ex. I’ve been there, it’s such a scary and lonely place but you’re not alone. There are so many people that can and will help. Grief is such a hard thing to deal with, there’s no guide and there’s no one way to cope. It’s an individual experience that you can and will get through but you’ll have to rely on your higher power and others for support. But they want to help and be supportive. Now that I’m on the other side of some major stuff, I realize that. I love being called or texted when someone asks for my help. Or just needs me to be there or hold space for them to go through whatever they’re experiencing. I hope this helps and I’m here, along with many others on this app! Support is EVERYTHING!
Absolutely upside down. Members of my family stopped talking to me. Everything imaginable happened with my health. But I fight every day because I need to do this for me. If people don’t like me or don’t want to be in my life that’s their problem. They all have problems. Some just being too nosy and others because they are alcoholics.
Absolutely been there. It’s hard to navigate when you have never done it sober. It gets easier- just immerse yourself in meeting, gratitude, and journal as much as you can. Isolation is easy when we feel this way. You got this man. We are all here for you.
Yea of course. Life happens and most likely everyone in sobriety will experience very heavy stuff and won't have to drink over it. I'm 2.5 sober and about a year in I was hit with very serious medical problems. I just got out of the hospital for my 2nd brain operation. Had major complications. A mini stroke and a aneurysm. No way I would have been able to face things like these of I didn't have God and a program. I just would have said f it like I always use to. Personally I credit AA, daily meetings, the 12 steps, and helping others as the things that have gotten me this far without having to drink or use. I had to put in the work but it has been the key to my sobriety. Even though I've had days in sobriety that were 100% miserable, I have been grateful to God for another day sober every single night when I get down on my knees that I haven't had to drink and thats the truth. This program produces daily miracles. I hope you find what I have. Good luck.
Yes, me getting sober was easy living life is hard. Dealing with parents who are getting older, both who have some type of illness. Learning you’ll never have kids wishing you froze some eggs knee surgery arthritis learning you might have to have a pelvis surgery and plates put in from when you were younger you’re back broken. And lose all the weight you gained when you were drinking. And every day life. But I remember life never gives God never gives you nothing you cannot handle
Honestly, writing your post did more than you think it did!
Yes. I am going through that today as a result of something very terrifying that happened with my son. It’s really a lot. I have been drinking cold energy drinks all day and staying safe with my family. Crisis is especially hard in sobriety. You are not alone. Sending love
I added you as a friend.
I’m really sorry about your son.
I hope everything goes well. Yes I stay with red bulls but I need to get off them. Ughh hate when life hits me hard. And I’m sure you do also.
Thanks for reaching out. Can I message you?
Absolutely!
