Has anyone here tried Refuge Recovery? It’s a Buddhism based recovery program, I’m really liking the parts I’ve experienced so far.
Never heard of it but it sounds really cool. Would love more info on it.
I’d just google it and then go to “find a meeting” and they have multiple online meetings, that may be the best way to learn more about them. A guy named Noah Levine has written several books on it, and he wrote the original text as well
I have been to a couple of meetings in my town and I enjoyed it too. I haven’t had a chance to read their book yet though.
I’ve been to quite a few meetings and enjoy it. The only drawback for me is that there are only a limited number of meetings compared to 12 step pathways. I do it as a supplement to my 12 step fellowship.
First off what is refuge recovery?
It’s a Buddhist based recovery program
Same here, closest meeting is about an hour away, so I mostly do online meetings
I started to attend meetings pre-Covid and for me it wasn’t quite the same online. There is also Dharma Recovery which is a similar concept.
Yea. It’s fantastic. It’s an empowering Buddhist based recovery program. Its centered around meditation, mindfulness and mentorship. You can find zoom meetings online. I highly recommend it. It has brought me a lot of peace.
I read the book and am working on going to meetings but honestly it resonated with me more. I bookmarked the meditations and other helpful entries that help me
I highly recommend it Emily
Yes I’ve been doing meetings for two years. I love it’s message
I’ve been to several online meetings and one in person downtown. It’s definitely worth a try. It helped me develop my mindfulness. You can buy the refuge recovery handbook and do a couple of meetings to see how you feel.
I've never heard of it
Nope
I am a practicing Buddhist and I had no idea this existed. Good for you. I do believe that my beliefs and practices in Buddhism have contributed to my current happily sober state. Glad it’s working for you. Good on you!
First recovery book I read! Found it really helpful. I also like Recovery Dharma and 8 Step Recovery (mindfulness based addiction recovery). All Buddhist in nature.

I am Buddhist and practice the Wu Wei and those two combined saved my life. Idk about the refuge recovery though. I know it's hard to find any meetings and it's kind of fallen off
Thank you for the suggestion. I ran to it and have downloaded the book and meeting info. I am new to meditation and this fits in perfectly for the journey I am on.
I've never tried it. Seems to be many alternatives more and more these days. I've seen AA work many times for those that follow its prescribed method of recovery. In AA, in order to accommodate everyone regardless of their spiritual beliefs we utilize what we refer to as a higher power which I personally call God.
I'm a Bible studying 7th Day Adventist Christian. Refuge Recovery is rooted in Buddhism and for Christians, that's a no-no.
1st Commandment states:
I am the Lord thy God. You shall have no other god's before me.
That's just my view, Emily.
That and $3 will buy you a cup of coffee.
