By making the decision to start. Dump everything in the toilet, get rid of all the paraphernalia or bottles or whatever it is your DOC, go to a meeting and follow suggestions heard at the meeting. Best of luck!

Step 1

This could be the most important question you ever ask yourself.

I couldnโ€™t start until my entire life almost stopped. Quite literally, I almost died.

Reach out if you need to talk.

Surrender means different things to us all and comes about through varying experiences. Those experiences are personal and relative to the individual

Admission of a problem is a great start

Realizing you can not get through it on your own is another big step

Abuse of drugs and alcohol usually is a sign of self sabotage, Obsessive compulsive behavior, physical allergy and other underlying mental health issues

Talking through any trauma or pain you may carry, creating a new support group, changing up patterns/habits, removal of certain PPT

If you are asking that question, you have already started. Make a decision โ€œI wonโ€™t drink/use todayโ€. One day at a time. If you relapse, make the decision again. I wonโ€™t drink/use today. Reach out. There is no judgment here we all know what you are going through. Try the Dry Challenge. There is a good audio on here about that. You can do this

Thank you I just downloaded it

The good news is that you already did start! You have to want it for yourself, and it sounds like you do. Not just one day at a time. Itโ€™s one hour at a time, or even one minute at a time! You can download the AA Meeting Guide app to find meetings all across the country. Zoom or in person. You will hear stories that sound very familiar to yours. Iโ€™m always here if you would like to reach out or have any more questions!! Best of luck to you!!!:pray:t3:

Being ready and willing to listen to what people have to say is a great start. This is a disease that a stage 4 diagnosis gives you the best shot at recovery. What brought you here may be different than anyone elseโ€™s story but the way you feel is something we can all relate to. Once youโ€™re fully seated in that chair youโ€™ll see growth you never thought possible!

Something I heard today that I find helpful. Do you want to stop or do you want to quit? When you pull up to a stop sign you know itโ€™s only temporary and youโ€™re going again. Wanting to quit means youโ€™re ready for a change that wonโ€™t bring you back to where you started.
